People will form their own opinions either way Rhino, I'd imagine most are already seeing rep and postcount as a similar thing anyway.

Anything like this will be abused or bragged about, be it post count, rep, or even join date.
Safest way is to remove the lot of it

And of the day, you shouldnt use a rep level to work out whether or not to listen to what someone has to say - its a public forum, and you need to take any opinions with a grain of salt

Yeah actually, post-per-day count has started to emerge as being a good ePeen counter - unfortunately, when Hornet had his join date reset it made his post-per-day count work out to be about 90

So any member can go to another member's profile and see the rep that has been left for them. Like an eBay feedback thing. And yes, see who it is from.
I like this idea.

Srsly Captn, you have to figure out where the line is, and what you can and can't say to mates. You really do seem to take a lot of liberties with what you think you can say to mates.
Sorry, Desmo, it's not always about you. mate

But thanks for that advice, I'll be sure to take it on board.

hence why he has the largest e-peen. (apart from Jesus. He will always have the biggest e-peen of them all)

Barfy's left some pretty borderline homo comments for me. Now that's all well and good between two adult consenting men in private. But I fear the rest of you wouldn't understand should this love become public..

i'd like to see who leaves you rep. and i give rep to people who help me, make me laugh or have a good point / interesting comment. i don't run around rubbing my e-peen and repping every person in sight, or try to slip one up certain members.

obviously if you have a problem with the rep system, and you see people having too much rep. maybe you should think about the fact you may have no e-personality?

just a thought.

Sure, but given that 'I genuinely use it to identify valuable users' is up there with 'shits and giggles', we aren't doing enough for those people. Who perhaps are lurkers not wanting to get involved or having trouble finding an easy way in?

I know a lot of this has been covered before but I'm just putting ideas and options out there.

You make me laugh as much as chocolate *fish.

The vocal ones 'defending their honour' or attacking me as being jealous have more to lose if the rep system goes, because you actually place importance on rep as a popularity thing.

I am fighting for it to be a useful indication of a person's worth in our community - they are not one and the same.

Just a thought.

I have a novel idea!
How about we use the forum as a rough guide only and gauge people's worth on their behaviour IRL.
This is the internet! It's serious business!

Edit: Then, if you really need to bring part of their "worth" online... add them to your friends list or soemthing like that...

Ryan ol buddy, some women see aggressive guys as dangerous and wisely avoid them. Others see them as strong alpha males who'll be good at protecting them and they usually wind up "walking into a door".

Some guys see highly sexed women as a gift from the gods because of all the borderline immoral and illegal shit they do between the sheets, others see them as tunnel gutted fuckbags that'll probably run off with your brother/mate/dog after giving you a nasty dose.

The point is people will interpret things in their own unique way. It's something I don't think we can really standardise without selectively culling areas of the population.

The rep system is okay with me because it gives you opportunity to tell someone you enjoyed what they had to say without filling the threads with "ROFL"s and "LOL"s etc.

I get what you mean, and agree, but I don't think it would be practical to try and police it.

The savvy noob will sit back and read for a while, and I'd like to think people's posts say more about them than their rep does

You asked for people between 1 and 2, and between 3 and 4 - so they were always going to level each other, because the only other options were 'i ignore it' and 'get rid of it'

thanks for telling me i'm "one of them" defending my honour.... i was told a couple weeks back i had no e-personality so i thought i would use it in here.... I don't use it as a popularity thing. but if i genuinely laugh at something, then i will give them some +ve. at the end of the day i am approving someone's post. i judge people IRL. i have thoughts about people online but i make my mind up face to face...

am i really that vocal?

Tongue in cheek, rhomo. Tongue in cheek.

Actually, I'm pretty happy with my rep points. Because I don't have a gaggle of sycophants sniffing around my e-bum, and I don't play a game of "oooh, you gave me rep so I'll give you some too". If I really like a post - either it's informative, helpful, or just funny, I'll +ve rep it. If I really hate it? I'll -ve rep it. Doesn't happen often. Yes, I put my name on reps unless I can see the recipient is a platinum supporter.

The rep I've gotted has come from many people, over many things, has been a healthy mix of "I appreciate that comment" either in the context of keeping a thread happy or actually contributing something useful AND of negative rep in the form of "wind your head in, fuckwit".

It's a useful gauge to a self confessed PSB addict/whore, allowing everyone a chance to help moderate my massive e-peen.

Your comments interest me too, because I see the top repped few members and none of them seem to fit the mould of the "whiny little groups on here and they'll just follow each other around like flies on shit + repping each other (to the point they have to 'spread' their reputation) before sliding their ePeen back up their mate because they posted a picture of a fat dog."

Nor have I seen any significant "rise in bullshit posts" since the introduction of the rep system.

Perhaps, Rhino, you need to widen your understanding of what makes members "notable and valued in our community", of what consists a post "that 'adds value' to PSB.".

Cheers mate.

BTW - your poll lacks the option pairs that make sense of
-"I genuinely use it to identify valuable users" + "Keep it - it's working just fine and is useful"; or
-"I get a laugh from it" + "Keep it - It's just for shits and giggles"
