Question RWTK Ever had a professional Resume done????

    Hi guys

Just wondering if you have had a professional Resume/CV done?

    How much did it cost?

    What was the process?

    Who did you use?

Why did you select that particular person?

How were they to deal with?

Did the resume meet your expectations?

Where did you find the person?

    Would you use them again?

I know it’s a lot for questions but feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Rider

I didn't even know that was a thing...

I wouldn't waste any money on one.

There are private ones but Workforce Development Centre will do it free of charge, get the right person and you'll get a good job of it.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development - Workforce Development Centres

Take in all your old resumes and details of the job you are going for.. they will do it in MS word.

I had one done about 8 years ago, I had never had to apply for a job before (been headhunted) and I'm not a salesman so thought I would get a "professional" to do it... worst mistake I have ever made.

Somewhere in Midland, can't remember the guys name but he was full of self importance, took way longer than he promised and only just got it in time to lodge with an application, of course THEN I read my copy and found a multitude of ridiculous mistakes, after the second call to the company I was applying to to explain/correct (my phone number FFS) I withdrew my application in embarresment.

Oh it was in a fancy format that I couldn't have produced though, as he pointed out when I berated him, no refund of course

(Yes I know I should have proof read it myself first but I honestly didn't have time as it was already late)

Search the net for a template and fill your own details in.

Resume's are a tiny part of getting a job anyway. As long as its truthful, neat and tidy and you use spell check, you'll be fine. I think the covering letter is just as important and sometimes more depending on the job you are applying for.

A great resume means nothing when you get to an interview anyway. If you interview shit, they aren't going to say "yeah, but he had a great resume".

*My opinion only - take it as you will****small business owner who reads resumes etc and hires people*

The best thing you can do is do it yourself, sure get someone to check it and make suggestion.. but write it yourself.

My bro-in-law is wicked with words, he can write awesome marketing pieces etc.. hes a word-smith.. and he has a beautiful fluffy resume that suits him, I have seen him write resumes for others and it just doesnt work..

As someone who has to read resumes from time to time, im looking for it to express you... not someones flowery version of how they think you should come across.

you know your skills better then anyone, and you know the industry/position you are going for.. and why you should be the person to get the position.

Some years ago it was the "in thing" to get a professional resume.. now - im looking for "you" not how "pretty" it looks.

As Wigarus said.. covering letter is just as important.

    get a template

    Be you..
