RWTK: How does personal training work on Mine sites?

I have googled this and cant come up with anything yet most of my FIFO clients tell me that their site gym has an Pt or attendant who works there.

Does anyone work in recruitment, services or just have a bloody clue how it works, what they might get paid, who employs then etc etc?

    Any info is much appreciated.

My camp is run by Universal Sodexho and that's who employs the PTs.

The ones Ive spoken to who are full time on site said they were employed through the site company- ie. BHP, not third party.
Ive seen a few who get flow from site to site and offer their skills whilst there. They are also employed as full time through the site company, just not dedicated to a particular site.

We also have one in one of my labour hire companies. She works with your doctor and manages compo people and their reintegration with the work force after injury- what they can and cant do etc. She is also available via phone if you have questions regarding diet etc but most of the employees don't know that. Though it a bit strange because I thought that was a physios job but she consults with the one you see if you have one. More like a watch dog to make sure you don't fake it from what Ive seen. Never heard of or seen her on site.

There's also another one who shows up on site a couple of times a year. Shes the one that makes up our 10, 000 step challenges and stuff. Shes a personal trainer. The rest of the time she writes up those diet/ health notices and crap they have on our pin boards, and health policies etc.

We've got a couple of gyms and a class fitness room. The PTs and such here do gym inductions, can write up programs for people, run the classes (such as circuit, boxing, pilates, core conditioning, spin class) and they also manage things like the indoor cricket competition, weight loss competition and such.

All the PTs work for Activelife - at a guess there are maybe 10 or so of them up here. Camp catering/cleaning is all through ESS and they might have subcontracted the gym side of things to Activelife, not sure.

My little brother and his girlfriend who have each just finished a bachelor degree with honours in Health Sciences have each just got jobs on two different mine sites.

It's through a third company that recruits and contracts to mine sites. I'll ask him what it's called.

Pretty sure they are on 95 plus a year each. Seams like a pretty sweet deal.

As the mining industry is sooooooooo focussed on safety, any site that provides a gym has a Duty of Care to ensure you know how to use it safely. Most self-contained sites (not in a town) will have a gym of some sort.

BHPB has a camp in Newman, Kurra Village, that has two gyms, and the site contractor, ESS, I think, employs a PT that you must see before you get a swipe card for access. It's not as full-on as an appraisal but they go over the equipment and it's proper use. They hold basketball games or tennis or any number of other sessions a couple of times a week and will give advice if sought on a gym programme.
At the opposite end of the spectrum is the Newman caravan park, at which there is a mining camp tacked on at the far end. It has our mess and a poxy little gym that fits about 15 people, tops. AFAIK all you have to do is ask at the front desk for a card to access it and that's it.

    Simple;
Young, fit, open minded, good looking, friendly females always win these jobs and are very welcome at any minesite, need SS legs to withstand the leghumping!
Full of self importance, cocky, males are hated and run out of sites, need strong body armour to survive the rocks and missiles thrown at them!

    **Clarification**

I no longer work in the remote sector. Have not done so for nearly 12 months. Highly unlikely I will go back (but never say never).

    Redfern....I'll ring you.

For all others looking for information.....sorry, my input will now be outdated. If you have PM'd me...take this as the response.

The industry changes so quickly, that any advice I may provide, could be and is likely to be out of date, and I will waste your time. Sorry, but I don't like giving out information that I have don't have 100% belief in myself.

In short....call the Mining Companies, Labour Hire etc. They will have up to date info to assist.

I'd still be interested to hear your experiences (even if they may not accurately represent current circumstances). Particularly if there was a reason that led you to leave the area of work.

Depends on the budget of the mining company and (usually) how many people are likely to use the facility

in Fifo construction they pretty much always are as they are usually part of the temporary construction camp facilities, whole bunch of prefab pieces bolted together - so lots of columns in your workspace and a million air-con inverters hanging off the side.

Photos of gyms would be great if anyone is onsite and can take a snap with their phone. It would be much appreciated, I would like to get an idea of the general facilities on these sites and what machines are provided.
