TCWTK: Tell me all about MELBOURNE

Going to go check out Melbourne for a weekend in April some time.
I will be staying somewhere central, probably just a Rydges or some other middle of the road hotel.
    I will have company.
I won't be going to shop. More sight-seeing, eating and drinking.

    Stuff I like:
    Pubs without bogans.
    Small boutique-type bars.
    Coffee.
    Good italian food.
    Museums.
Tech nerd stuff, to a point.
Pretty things I can point a camera at.

    Stuff I don't like:
    Bogans.

So, tell me all about Melbourne. What should I absolutely do on my first pleasure-trip in the area? What should I avoid like the plague? What can I do to avoid that whole not-wanting-to-come-back-to-Perth feeling I always seem to get?

Answers on a postcard to the usual address.

Melbourne is the one of the best places in Australia Full Stop!

We go once a year for the F1 and stay at the hotel Enterpirse on Spencer St, and catch the tram to Albert Park.

Food is so cheap, bars are everywhere and I never notice any bogans at all and everyone is so freindly its not funny!

If you like Italian and lets face it who dosnt Lygon st is the pace to go, its about 15mins from the city and has the best and cheapest food you can get, there is also a Cafe there I forget the name, it wins awards there all the time, it does cakes and coffee and is off a side st to Lygon, there are people there till all hours of the night.

Best thing I like on Lygon st is everyone speaks Italian, its like going back home, lol and you get free stuff and people tryinhg to get you to eat there, lol

Then you have the DFO's the wife goes crazy, you need to spend at least two days just doing them and the prices are not too bad, it reminds me a little of KL

The only thing to rember is to wear layers and bring an umbrella, as the weather is so unpredictable.

I will be there again in March for the F1 and cant wait!!

    hope this helps a little?

    Nice one.

I've been told that we'll be hitting Lygon street and some sort of amazing famous patisserie. I imagine there will be jewellery and shoe shopping done, but I can go and do something cool instead while that's going on, maybe go look at motorcycles. /manly.

The Melbourne Museum and Carlton Gardens are just a couple streets over from Lygon st. Or if you're hungry I can personally recommend Cafe Correto. When I lived there I used to eat there often and the food was amazing and cheap. Also, you have to go to Cookie Bar in the CBD, it's a rooftop bar amongst all the high rises. There's also a bar under Fed Square called Riverland bar. It's pretty damn awesome too, right on the Yarra. Eureka tower has a glass booth called Skydeck that's worth a look. Otherwise, anything in St Kilda you pretty much can't go wrong with, or the surrounding areas (Prahran, Elwood, Brighton etc...)

PM me if you have any questions dude.

Exciting things to do in Melbourne

Catch a tram, avoid getting hit by them.
Hang out at the MCG and say cool things like 'well played sir, jolly good shot and I think Clarkie's got third man too wide"
Go to Collingwood and see if you can find anyone with any teeth
Drink VB out of a thimble

that's pretty much it really - to avoid the whole don't want to go back to Perth thing I recommend ...... going to Melbourne

We went for a weekend last year and stayed at an apartment hotel near Crown... didnt see too many bogans, but have met a few hipsters

Lygon St was awesome with the cheap and great foods they served there... so much options, and people there were friendly...

Had a look at Eureka Tower and went into this room that had glass floor and you can see all the way to the ground... pretty cool and good view of melbourne city

Their Harbour town is much nicer than ours... lots of cheap shopping... there was a street we went to that had lots of warehouse type shops that sell cheap cloths, but we saw mostly women stuff... so I got bored...

Max Brenner Hot chocolate was pretty nice

We went to Nobu near crown for dinner.. wasnt impressed by the food, and the price was pretty high for what we got...

Night time photo along the river outside of the casino is nice when it is not crowded... there are pillars along there that shoots flames at certain time during the night... would make good shoots

Tram service is great to get along anywhere

That amazing patisserie you speak of around Lygon St may well be Brunetti.

Makes the best coffee I've ever had, and made by people in tuxedos.

Also for a proper drink, Madame Brussels Rooftop Bar is a place I would highly recommend.

Waiters/resses in tennis getup, turfed floors. Pretty cool.

Will be there in March for the F1 as well.

We had a night in Melbourne last year. Got there about 4pm got to hotel dumped our gear and went for a walk had Japanese for dinner in an awesome little place then went to the roof top bar and chilled. Such an awesome atmosphere there.
We spent the next day just walkin about and checkin the place out before leaving in the avo.
I'm not usually a fan of city's and crowds and avoid goin into perth cbd at all costs but there was something about Melbourne CBD I liked and am lookin forward to goin back again this year.

    Lily Blacks

Lily Blacks is the home of a new thing called Iron Bartender, it's every bit as awesome as it sounds. Plus it's a nicely decorated, well stocked speakeasy when the action isn't happening.

    A friends brother owns it.

Also went to the F1 last year... If you havent been before, I would suggest that you forward your trip by a couple of weeks to catch it. Its not only the F1 that makes it great, but most of the city seems to get with it and the atmosphere over F1 weekend is tops!

Few funky bars around Richmond that we went to, they were pretty cool.
St Kilda was a great night out and had a decent night out in the city too...
If your into 'blokey' bars, head down Collins street of a night time.

I didnt get up to very much shopping, but the food, drinks and coffee are sooooooooo much cheaper, for equivalent quality (if not better) to what is available locally here.

I really rate Melbourne, pretty keen to spend some more time over there.

yeah we go 1 week before the F1 as the four days at the f1 is very draining to say the least,

I remember crashing at 8pm on the saturday night so I was up at 6 for the big day.

God I cant wait!! FORZA FERRARI!!

F1 raceday is the 18th, quali the day before.
    Do it!!!!

Even though its relatively early in the year, do take enough warm clothes haha...
Melbourne has this ability to be really hot one minute and completely freezing the next.
