TWTK: Who is your true Hero?

Reading the "worst accident you've ever seen" thread has made me realise who really matter within society, the ones that go out of their way and do their job. Maybe saving lives or preventing death etc etc.
So I want to know- Who is your true Hero?
I know a few people are going to throw around sportsman- which is cool

I want to see if people throw around more than sportsman though, maybe it's a surgeon or someone who donated an organ etc etc.
I've got two people that have inspired me over the years.
One is my Mother- she doesn't save lives but she's taught me so many invaluable things and stuck by me through my horrible teenage years.
The other- Florence Nightingale, for obvious reasons.

I know it gets hashed out alot, but im going with nurses. First responders are up there too obviously. But the things that nurses do, day in day out for other people is incredible, I have heard a few stories from nurse friends but im sure that there are many more. All for sweet FA pay (I mean correct me if I'm wrong but teachers get paid more).

The way I see it, it takes a certain type of person to be a Nurse, I know that there is no way I could do any of it, after witnessing the general care of my grandparents.
