Vasectomy : Who's had it, how'd it go?

The RSPT is a bit too high-brow at the moment, thought i'd lower the toe a little.

So, after exceeding 40 and having produced two wonderful kids, i've gone and had the snip.

And "snip" was the operational word, local needle, 30 minutes, easy drive home, and done.

A couple of days later, and I am now the proud owner of a couple of tennis balls, where the usual situation was closer to golf balls, but things are settling down slowly.

Doctor Snowball - yes that's his name - advised me that I should be good to get back into sexual intercourse in 3-4 days. Needless to say, with the state of the pitch currently, i'm a bit reluctant to get into it just yet. Not too fazed, but the though of banging a cracker he wrong way fills me with dreadful/painful thoughts

So, how'd your op go, and how long before you were back in the game?

Although that's what it fucking felt like for about a week afterwards...

Was probably10 days or so before I could return to normal duties. Carefully.

After I had my "snip"...I got home...and the RSCW (who was 2 years old at the time) ran towards me (I was lying on the couch) and took a flying leap...landing on my groin. Needless to say, I didn't see the funny side of it. The twins began to look very indigenous a few days later...so I went to the Doc...next minute, I was being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. Seems the young fellow hit the sweet spot and burst the stitches.

I do believe that the "banging a cracker the wrong way" is an apt description. Because of my post op trauma, I took a little longer get back into the saddle.

I recall a mate of mine when he had his done. We were about 250kms north of Sydney at the time and he had the snip done under local at the nearby Hospital. Got home that afternoon (a Monday I recall), and packed his bags for a 3 day trip to Sydney (we were in the RAAF). He got back from Sydney late Thursday evening....and fronted up to the hospital with his specimen jar (full) in his pocket on the Friday. When he handed it to the nurse, she said "No, no Mr Smith...your supposed to use it 12 - 18 times before we check the sperm count." He responded..."well, I would have had it back to you by Wednesday morning...but I've been in Sydney for the past few days." Seems Mick ripped 3 off with his wife as soon as he got home from surgery...another couple before he went to Sydney...then he finished the quota off when he returned from Sydney. That's gutsy.

Depends on your level of Private Health Cover. I sussed it out for a 'mate' of mine, and yes, if you have the highest level of cover with some health funds then, yes, it does. Best thing to do is to call your health fund to check. Either way, i still think it's a worthwhile 'snip', and much respect to the men that have had it done

I've heard that wives of those that had the snip end up with an increased libido. Any truth to this guys, in your experience?

Oh, and I gather the procedure has changed a little from years past.

In the old days, they cut and excised a portion of the vas tie-ing up both ends. This meant that sperm was trapped in the shortened end of the vas. Sometimes, the sperm may not be cleared away by the immune system in time, before an infection set in - could cause problems - and it happened to a mate of mine Pain, swelling, the whole "box and dice".

Nowadays, they only tie the "external end" of the cut pipe (cauterised and titanium clamp ), leaving the "internal end" open.

Basically means every time you ejaculate, you fill up your scrotum a little

My lovely wife has decided I need to have the snip. I'm reluctant mainly due to the little voice in my head that says I want more kids. So I figure if SHE doesn't want anymore then SHE should go get the snip. Her response is brutal. "If you want sex, get the snip". Of course the line about "from someone else" didn't land very well, though her left hook did

So I had a chat to my mate about it and came to the conclusion that no sex was better the agony in the nether regions that he endured.

I also heard there is a new less invasive method done by Home - but that still sounds painful.

So, any other options?
