Cool Winter Mode On Ceiling Fans

I've recently got a ceiling fan in my bedroom and have once again noticed that ceiling fans have a switch to change the direction of the rotation.

This new one actually marks it as summer and winter mode.

"Does anyone or has anyone use fans in this mode during winter ??" , if so what was the experience like ??

It is meant to circulate the warm air on the ceiling down when you have heating on, indirectly

    Yeah whs.

Lots of heat is wasted up high during winter, so reversing the direction just means you get the hot air from up high, to down low.

Youll find the winter mode makes it go in reverse (duh!!!), as in sucking air up to the ceiling, not sucking it down, bringing the cool air from down low, to flush the warm air as it bounces off the roof and walls down to the lower part of the room.

Fan forced ovens work why? Cos circulating air makes an more even temperature. More even temparture cooks around the food better, and you actually dont need thermostat as high as a conventional oven (well all conventional ovens these days are pretty much fan forced... My one doesnt have bake on it, just fan grill and fan bake.

Nanna used to make cakes at xx many degrees on the top shelf, then at another xx of degrees on the lower shelf at different times while baking. Now fan forced has done away with that. Have a look in the frozens section in the supermarket, a lot of packs will have a higher degrees celcius cooking instruction for conventional oven, and a lower temperature, and possibly shorter recommended cook time for fan forced.

Use it on low speed to avoid draft induced cooling effect on bare skin.

I tried it on mine years ago but the fan spins too fast and the draught makes you feel cold. I put a globe inline to slow the thing down but it was still too fast so we never bothered with it again. We have pretty high ceilings so maybe that's the problem.

A wouldnt think a globe would have much effect. A different controller maybe? Tie a child to the blades? What is your main method of heating the house?

Incandescant? I am not sure how they regulate those ceiling fans, voltage, amps etc. Thats what you would need to know before you could sort it.

Make 'em spin backwards and watch all the greasy dust fly across the room!

You might want to wipe the blades first.
