Why do we as Australians hate on the Americans so much?
Or on a more personal level what have the Americans as a people done to you?

I have noticed from friends and on here a constant bagging of Americans. Interested in your thoughts.

One side of my family is American, this is from a range of people that have been to America and also from those who base their desicion soley on tv.

Individually they can be OK, I've spoken to some well educated Americans and they hate their foreign policy and the stupidity of their fellow American.

I think its because our politicians stick their tongue so far up the american presidents arse, they can taste when he brushes their teeth. Always relying on america for this or that, always jumping when america says jump, Id really like to see australia as a leader, not a follow

Dont really hate them, they love Aussies.

Were are surrounded by their influence:
TV, movies, fastfood, music etc.
Yanks at times can be irritating especially with there verbal diarrhoea & they have no sense of irony!

the origins of aussies esp blokes have a dislike of yanks or septics came from the early 1940's where cashed up yanks landed here for r/r and the females starved of many of lifes niceties and available males would go out with them...the males left at home didnt have the $$$$ to compete....

just gross generalising - not all yanks are dumbarse rednecks, just had not all aussies are intelligent rocket scientists.

i think the sheer amount of america that is in people face (tv, music, Big Mac's) etc etc gets on people goats.

having stayed on the states for 6 weeks in 96, you could generally met a nice friendly bunch of people , yeah there wre a few rude asshioles, but you could say that of Oz

I never used to care - but 6 weeks of backpacking brought out some of the worst failures of human beings I've seen. Loud, obnoxious and know-it-all yanks running about telling people what to do and where to go.

One American refused to pay 5,000 kip per person in Laos to get a ride to the river, instead trying to bargain and get 20,000 kip for 4 people... followed by the discount of 24,000 kip for 5 people. He then told us we were not in the centre of town. We left him there at midday. He finally made it into town after walking at 5pm

A german girl on a sleeper bus in Vietnam just about punched this one yank who, after many hours travel to Nha Trang, claimed that we 'are being ripped off, we are still in Saigon - I don't see a beach, this isn't Nha Trang - I'm going to go ask some questions and get some answer - I'm going to sort this out and get my ride to Nha Trang'


You'd think Vietnam would be just about the last place an American would want to be standing out

Spent some time there in the late noughties and wouldn't piss on most of them if they were on fire. Did meet some top ones who are still intouch with nowdays and happy to call them friends
