    YWTK - Shavers

So I'm sick of manually shaving my hairy ass face and I would like to trim my scalp without paying a hairdresser.

After visiting a shaver shop I was quite blown away by the difference in price and brands.

What do people have / recommend? I'll probs end up being the tight uni student I am and buying from fleebay so links to anything people recommend on there is greatly helpful.

    Thanks

I have used one of these for the past year and a half for hair cuts. I got it for $30 from K-mart. I don't actually shave my face so I can't help you for that bit.

Cut-throat razor in the hands of a skilled woman - nothing beats that! But since you want it automated, I would second the Philishave as best for baldness. If you are merely talking facial hair (as opposed to scalp) then I have never had a dry shave that felt less than torture compared to a disposable wet-shave in the shower. I have no man-card though!

PS. If you are thinking the simple DIY #2 head shear, remember all that fur on the back of the neck that is impossible to do yourself!

I've got the waterproof Philishave models and use them in the shower. No shave rash and I have sensitive skin. Use it dry.... Owwwww. Like a manual blade.

But a wet model, in the shower = bliss.

I can't really comment on the facial hair side as I don't go the clean shave because I suffer from bad ingrown hairs and shaving rash so I just use a beard trimmer. I've had one of these for almost a year now and found it works quite well. It also comes with plenty of attachments for taking care of the rest of your head and is completely waterproof.

I had a Philishave years ago...

    Rotary shavers are shit...

Try a vibratory file type shaver and you will be impressed...

    The Braun has impressed me...

Cleans itself, sits in the charger ready to go...

Comes with a cord to run it direct off the power, but in all my trips it has just run on the battery and never got low on charge...

I have replaced the file and foil once...they recommend ever 18 months IIRC...

The cleaner solution refills are $20 for 2 and gets through one every 6 to 8 weeks...

So when you say they are pretty expensive what's a ballpark figure? I'm happy to spend cash on something if it lasts years

Used a cut throat for years and swore by it. Then picked up (on a credit cards reward program) a philishave thingy - three rotary head, whatever, about $60 worth. Crappy job but it's quick and painless.

On the rare occasion I want a really smooth face afterwards I drag out the old Kitchener blade and strop...

I've had the same philishave for about 20 years now. Still works good, cost about $150 back then, but it'll have to last another decade before I can say it's good value for money.
Seriously, add up how much you spend on razors, you could have a small holiday every year with that cash.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/

Had mine 10 years I think it's the 7600 from memory, still going strong. Although I don't use the cleaning solution option as much as I don't need such a close shave anymore. As for the head I have one you can have. You know where I live

^^This. I got a Phillishave 8XXX and it's quick, but not too effective; use it dry and it's a compromise between not missing half the bristles and not ending up with a peeled face, use it with water, soap or oil and it clogs up.

I got it, then got a cut-throat and switched between that (for baby-smoothness) and Mach3 safeties (for "normal" use). About to give the 'leccy another shot though...
