Can you have a mid-life crisis at only 30?
Hi All,
I recently turned 30, had my beloved classic Fiat written off and was made redundant. Cool times
The up side to this was that I finally had time to get my RE license, plus an insurance cheque - which I used to buy a motorbike last Tuesday (after securing an even better job a couple of weeks ago).
Anyhow I did extensive internet research about legal RE bikes and immediately took a shine to the idea of an Aprilia 125RS. At 6'3" and 86kg I knew that I'd be a bit big for most rides, so I went to a few shops to see what would work for me. Being an experienced lycra-wearing cyclist with a passion for buzz box Italian cars the Aprilia felt far better than the rest - and I swear the seat is no lower than a Hyosang GT250R.
So I bought what I consider to be a bargain (from Mr DJ on this forum) after seeing it on bikepoint. It appears that my driving style (screaming the nuts off of small displacement 4 cylinder cars) is very well suited to the tiny 2 stroke, and my mechanical aptitude will no doubt come in handy to keep the apparently high maintenance costs down too.
Having a fair bit of experience modifying Italian cars and racing push bikes you can look forward to seeing a colour coordinated, whipper-snipper powered Aprilia growing in speed and coordination as 2010 progresses!
See you out there. From a buzz box Fiat to a buzz box Aprilia - courtesy of a 4WD and an insurance cheque

Welcome to the site mate, just out of interest, what Fiat is that? I recognise it but I'm damned if I know what one it is. Bummer about it though.
Have fun on the bike!
Jack.

Hi Jesse
You can have a mid life crisis at 30 but if you make it to 70 you must top yourself. Unless you make the crisis last 20 years then you can safely make 100
Have fun with the new toy, welcome to the forum, bikes and I dont need to welcome you to the pleasures of the "woggers" as it seems you have been aflicted for some time.
Sorry to see the Fiat bent like that, but it's only bent at the back ....... that'l buff right out
BertIt's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt
Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

How long have you owned that Fiat? I used to see that a bit around Mt.Lawley and Leederville about 8 years ago. What a shame.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
That particular Fiat (a 1968 Fiat 124 Sport - one of a handful in WA) I imported from QLD about 3 years ago, sight unseen, for stuff all. I then rebuilt the motor, brakes etc. before getting it registered. Twas a great little car until I was lining up to get onto a roundabout, about 30 seconds later I was crunched from behind by a Land Rover Discovery with a 2 tonne trailer on the back. He was lucky it wasn't my other one, a project I've been working on for about 10 years that'll rev to about 9K
Anyhow I sold the Fiat to a guy who will straighten and restore her, so I can turn my attention/devotion guilt-free to my new pride and joy!

if you get to 50 and loose wanting a mid-life crisis everyday, that's when you should worry

Welcome to PSB Jesse Mach.
I remember watching that TV series when I was a kid. Never missed a single episode. Find it a bit silly now, but back in the day when the technology was still primitive, that show rocked.

Frankly I'm wondering if I'm not mentally regressing, this could actually be my teenage rebellion phase... Happy Days indeed, hey Tuscadero?
This bike is definitely 'me'.Last edited by Jesse Mach; 28-12-2009 at 02:21 PM. Reason: Removed license plate info as suggested.

Hey Carly, it's a big move from Quad Roller skates to 2 wheels right?

I've already been for a few rides - I love taking massive detours on my way home, especially late at night. What should I be doing next? From a buzz box Fiat to a buzz box Aprilia - courtesy of a 4WD and an insurance cheque

I'm in for the 4th of January.
Interesting to see where I end up on the forum though... a 2 stroke Italian with 250 power seems to get me cred for Moto Italiano, Two Strokers and Two Fiddy
