Men have motorcycles while women have mensutral cycles, you can't talk to either while they are on it. The women's also has a sound, it goes nag-na-nag-nag-nag, biiiiiitch-bitch-biiiiiiiitch!

    No problem Mate.
It's a generational thing, humans, always "expect & respect the differences"
Am probably older than some of your Dads.
I show the same opinion to bikes I don't like,
as those that have the same opinion of the bikes I do like.

I like the way you do things.

Love the old Harleys, even if i do ride one of these new fancy sports bikes.

Yep, thats about it arwon, if you love your bike, maintaine your bike & ride it like you stole it, more power to you.
I just got no time for the scum ... $30 grand & 30klms a year don't make you a biker.
Most new generation Harley(hog) blokes I find are just renting the old lifestyle,
never woken up with a hangover under a bridge with the nameless barmaid,
never repaired a broken chain with fence wire on the Hay Plains,
never had a swag on their shining HD-fully-dealer-optioned bike,
pisses em off when I talk to and buy a drink for a young jap sports bike rider and ignore them.
They're the dikwads that give HD riders a bad name, "Rent-an-image-for-$30k",
they stand out like dogsballs in the shop, talk the loudest, cutoffs covered in "I've-been-everywhere-man-stickers", bloody embroidery collecting dikwads.
Don't worry, I agree with most of you on that, but their are other harley luvers too, that rode back in the days when you pulled into a fuel stop and people asked you what THAT bike was ,,,
At least you kids are out riding for the same reason I do, the love of it.
I hold more respect for you on your jappa than a I do for "Mid-life-crisas-dikwad".
Just because I despise your jappa, don't mean I dis-respect you.

No stress mate, I'm all for the live and let live thing - it just seemed to me from what you have been saying that your attitude is more like "fuck the haters and posers" than it is "fuck jap bikes".

Either way, enjoy PSB - we're all riders and are in the same boat

I've been thinking about this alot because I do quite like Harleys. Not so much newer ones, but older ones for sure.

If I ever by a Harley it won't be because I want people to know I have one (wank factor), it would be for my own enjoyment. But at the same time I will never live the so-called "Harley lifestyle", that you describe, HunterMotorcyclesGuy.

So, in your opinion, is it ok if I buy a Harley if I havent done any of these things?

I understand that it is frustrating for you to see guys buying Harley's for the image and not really riding anywhere or experiencing the bike to it's fullest.

But at the same time I respect that it's their life/money and I don't think less of them because of that, unless they talk alot of shit and try to impress me.

Its early here, about to head off on an important business meeting nth, instead of flying, I ride there, hot yesterday but cool this morning & at 55 the arthiritis in bones are feeling it, sky covered in heavy grey clouds, rain predicted, admittedly don't pack a swag these days, the gold card means 5 star instead of a bridge for 2 nights .... but while I'm enjoying the few hundred klms over next 3 days, I'll think of a 1/2 intelligent answer .... unless alzheimers(old-timers-disease) prevents me from remembering.
I suggest you go for a ride also, then come back and ask yourself ... "did I really need to ask that"
    I'll be back friday night.
Unless I stumble across the usual old divorced roadhouse waitress ...... I'm into community service !

    Sounds like a good trip.
Thanks for taking my questions into consideration, I honestly look forward to your answer...

If I could ride at the moment I would take your advice, but a car has put me off the road for nearly 4 months and counting. Probably 3-6 more months.

As to whether or not I really needed to ask that question...of course I didn't need to. Though I wanted to, that's the entire point of a forum, to learn about other people's opinions (sometimes whether you like it or not ) and I am actually interested to know your feelings on the matter as an old school Harley rider.

I'm certainly not trying to have a dig at you or anything like that.
