First off, greetings everyone. I heard of this community from a workmate (xphread) and was told its a great place for newbies and veteran bike riders alike.

So, a bit about me then? My name is Angelo, 23, and have pretty much had an uneventful life up to 6 months ago when everything started falling apart. Yay for me! In a nutshell, some women can't be trusted even after 5+ years (not stereotyping all women, sorry girls, but some hide their true colours), misery loves company and nice guys get nowhere (hows that for being positive!?).

That being said, I've always wanted to learn/ride a motorbike, but with a couple motorbike related accidents in the family and a (ex)girlfriend who forbidded such a thing, I was stuck to the good ol' four wheels. However, now its different and I gotta start somewhere, so, I got a few questions...

1) What is required to get a motorbike license?
2) Is there anyone/anywhere that can be recommended for people wanted to learn how to ride a bike?
3) What is a good beginner/250cc bike?

And finally, its nice to be a part of what seems to be a cool bunch of people.

Gday Cyph,
Mate, when ya feeling down there is no better cure than the wind in your face.
Welcome to PSB.
Do note that there are no exits, you have just sold your soul and Maarkan is on his way over to eat all your food and sleep on your couch.
Try using the search button function up the top of the page to search on stuff your interested in, you'll find most of what your asking has been asked many a time before.
Quickly in response to your questions....
You need your L plates. $28 bucks and a piss easy test at yr local licence centre.
Plenty of good bike schools around. Try Elite Motorcycle Training or several others mentioned on this site.
A good bike is like a good woman, depends on what you like and you should ride them all before you settle down with one, bikes that is not women, then again....
Welcome, enjoy your stay, get on two wheels ASAP get lots of lessons and get on with living life to the full.
RR

I've got my test next week so here's what i did.....went to licencing centre and sat some crappy computer test, paid about 50bucks and got my learners permit.

Booked my test for about 6 weeks in the future.

Pay some guy 50bucks a lesson (one a week) while waiting for my test.

Ride around on my 'Jack jones' every opportunity to get some experience and also bum some shadow rides off anyone and everyone to get some road experience.

Rock up for my test, pay the money, collect the licence (hopefully).

For me it was take who i could get, everyone wants lessons and tests so don't be too picky....turns out ive got a good guy but its pointless doing a recco unless you are in the northern suburbs, pm me if you want details.

Kinda depends what you are looking for mate, as everyone says, its a personal choice.

For me i needed a big 250, but didn't want a ropey one either, wanted a decent warranty and also didnt want to get screwed on price.

So i could have gone for any number of second hand bikes with a 3 month warranty for around 7grand but i went for a brand new Hyosung GT250R with a 2 year warranty for 6990 ride away. It aint a sexy brand name but i've had no dodgy comments about the bike itself (check other posts).

Thats what i did, find your own way matey, whatever works for you.

Cyph, I take it you work at ERG then? I ride the black and dark grey ZX2R lined up with the other bikes and work downstairs with the Sydney AVM team (Well if you don't see it that's because I've taken the pushbike in). Come have a chat one day

Thanks for the replies guys. And yep, I work at ERG, currently on the Seattle project as a tester, so I can be found either upstairs in my cubicle farm or downstairs in the Seattle test bed, where the good times always roll... umm,, yeh...

I've been looking at whats available in the 250cc class, and so far it seems CBX250s and ZZR250s are popular. I don't mind buying something that's second hand aslong as it has been well looked after, in great condition and is not too old (preferably made after 2000). What other good 250cc sportbikes are there?

Anyone got any personal stories about ZZR250s? Actually on that note, I was talking to the helpful guys down at the Yamaha bike store off Wanneroo Road (who offer lessons for $40 an hour, everything provided) and they mentioned the Honda CBR250.... so much info in so little time lol

Im just trying to soak up as much info as possible
