Cool Hi Everyone!!, new member from Rockingham.

    Hi guys,

Relatively new rider so I was pretty excited to discover this site as I would love to find others to ride with and learn from.

Got my scooter license at 16, then got 250 license at 22 and finally decided to complete the trifecta with my open license at 37. So last ten years with no bike and just getting back on now. A bit more financial now so was able to get something half decent (well to me anyway) with the repsol. Gaining confidence with cornering and body position but still have a lot to learn so would love to catch up or get involved.

My mates are (as much as I love em) are mostly unlicensed, uninsured pains in the ass who just ask for rides on my bike so no help there.

Now for some questions that I hope you guys can help me with ( more of a sanity check for me really ).

    So, is it just me or does anyone else;

    - always click the indicator switch to make sure you haven't left in on ?.
    - click it up just one more time to make sure you are in top gear when you should be ?.
    - get a bit nervous in heavy traffic and sometimes feel a bit bullied by car drivers ?
    - force yourself to concentrate on counter steering and body position when your instinct is to chicken out and just worry about hitting the Kerb at the right angle ?
    - I like it when other riders give me the nod, but some guys just snub you altogether.
    - have great days when every bend just flows and other days when you don't get em all right ?
    - find turning right at a roundabout (or all the way around) to be quite slow. Not sure why but I find the left hand bends a lot easier.
    - feel like a complete amateur when some guy screams past on an R1 at a thousand miles an hour on the back wheel ?
    - shit yourself when seeing a patch of sand, gravel or drain cover when your halfway through the bend and wonder if your front wheel is going to slip.

Anyway, I seem to be getting better as the days go on so hopefully I'll get there one day.

Cheers guys, hope to see and meet you out there.

    Glenn.

Welcome along, don't have any of those issues, but it will change the longer you are on the bike, look out for advertised rides and hook up with some fantastic people, a few down your way

    See you out there

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcome. Thanks Dr Shan, good to know I'm not the lone ranger with some of my ideas. Post it up when you get your bike and maybe I could tag along for a ride.

I suppose the wheelie point doesn't bother me that much, I'd actually be more worried about coming off and the bike hurting someone. The sand and drain cover thing is pretty hard for me not to worry about though.

Anyway, the chicken strips seem to be getting smaller every week so eventually I should feel completely comfortable - well that's my aim, so let's see.

    Cheers guys.

welcome mate, i went for a ride on friday and really just wasnt feeling it so i backed off and took my time. Most of us are the same (some are fucking nutters, you'll meet them later )
Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
In the backroads as it is on the freeway
Give us this day our high-octane premium fuel
    And forgive us our lanesplitting
As we forgive the four wheel drives, the volvos and the taxis
And lead us not into gravel corners
But deliver us from hand-held radars
For thine is thy leather, thy denim, thy Gore-Tex and thy Kevlar

    Practice Practice Practice Glenno!!
Only think im afraid off is hurting the bike.. screw the arm or leg I might loose.. there are third world countries full of spare body parts!! And for anyone who gets hurt by the airborne bike ... if they cant dodge a flying bike.. well wear it then ha ha

Oh and its a proven fact that pilots (yes ... we riders are comparable to fighter pilots) make their biggest mistakes around their 100th hour. when they are confident enough to be cocky .. and inexperienced enough to screw up ha ha!

    Cool

DrShan, I suspect you are more the daredevil than me, which is good because I am right at the opposite end of the spectrum

Practicing like a mofo everyday. Ride around until the fuel light comes on, top up, and then go some more. If I practice anymore or spend anymore time cleaning it after every ride, well I think I may end up very very single and homeless, Ha Ha. The Mrs is already trying to hide the keys !!.

Hey mate. I'm a rockingham lad as well. So welcome along. Good to see more people getting back on the steel horse.

    Cool

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the responses and feedback, you have made me feel very welcome, so Cheers.

Excuse my newbie ignorance, but is "south west riders" a term that I can search for ?. Tried, I think I'm doing it wrong

I checked out the newbie learner ride on this Thursday (thanks kat). Hope this isn't a stupid question, but If the ride is for southwest riders (Rockingham, Mandurah etc), why does it start in Bayswater? - just askin.

Is there any meeting points down this way at all ?.

Sitting inside at work while the sun is shining has never p1$$ed me off so much until I got my bike. Addicted!!.

Such a pity we can only ride after work when that poxy wind is bending the trees in Rockingham, or on weekends when someone is trying to shove a paintbrush into your hands (cough, sorry babe, cough)

I think the Rockingham lads need to organize a mass summer sickie and ride, ride, ride.

    Cheers guys,

    Glenn

yeh mate, southwest riders is an entirely different club, so its not a Psb affiliate. although there are a number of psb members on there too.

I would be in for a 'sickie' ride. although for me to have a sick day, i need to bring in a doctor's certificate that morning to say i am unfit for work, which then warrants the response "if you're well enough to go to the doctors, you're well enough to work"

    maybe on the weekend sometime?

    Thanks Noctis, Thanks Twigs.

    I will check it out.

Yeah Noctis, flat out at work as well, I can get away without the Doctors note but the last time I took a sickie no one spoke to me for about a week ! - bloody work nerds...

Definitely up for a spin on the weekend, I usually park up at Palm Beach, on the pavers outside Sunsets and try and find someone to take a ride with. The repsol stands out like you know what, what do you ride mate so I can look out for you or PM me if you prefer.

    Cheers
