New dude looking for first bike

    Hey all.

I have only recently become interested in bikes thanks to a few keen mates. I saw this forum and joined up today and so far i'm enjoying reading through all the threads. I haven't got my license yet but plan to sort it out in the next few weeks. Any suggestions on a first bike? I know i'm limited to a 250 but it seems there are a few good ones out there like the Ninja 250R

Hiya and welcome, make sure you lok at all available 250's and sit on everyone of them, they might look the goods, but just might not suit you.

    Have fun trying them all

    Yeah cheers.

I'm definitely going for a sport bike, not interested in cruiser's at all. I'm just not sure if I should go all out and get a new Ninja 250R or get a cheapie and then upgrade in a year when my license permits.

A mate has a Suzuki RGV250 and it's a nice ride but they're not without their problems. At this stage i'm not sure what else I should look for. I'm 6'1" and only a skinny turd (currently changing that at the gym) so I will need something comfy for my height.

Long term goal is to get a new R1. Absolutely love those bikes.

Something that will hold its value, will sell relatively easily and will also allow you to comfortably ride around and learn valuable road skills.

    vtr-250s are good.

4 stroke maybe is better for beginer instead of the 2 strokers... and easier to maintain

if ur looking for something reliable the honda is ur best bet, and if your planning on upgrading then maybe a cbr250 could last you till then? all 250's hold their value so dont worry about resale value

All demends on how much you have to play with and how long you plan on riding it. If you plan on only riding the for the year then upgrading once you can get your Rs then go cheap and spend more money on the new bike. If you plan on riding it longer then go for something like the 250R

Welcome to PSB and get out and enjoy.

Quoted for truth. It's the most forgiving bike I've ever ridden.

    Good luck out there.

Hello, and welcome to the asylum!

There's a little bike shop on Albany Highway nearby Carousel. I was in there yesterday and they have a really diverse range of 250s, including a couple a two strokes and a 4-cylinder pocket rocket or two. Well worth a visit, IMO.

Since you're kinda tall, you might want to see if you can find a 250 Hornet because they're big bikes and you won't feel like you have your knees up around your ears. The Hornet is good because it goes extremely well, but the VTR and even the Hyo 250s are worth a look.
    "Safety Cameras" Yeah, right!
