New to forum and in need of new rubber.

Hi all new to the forum been riden bikes since I was a young fella, stopped at the end of 99 as I didn't now what bike to get next and ended up spending the cash on a house. I think its a story that been told a million times. About a year ago my old ute died and I seized the opertunity to get back on 2 wheels. Dollars are as always hard to come by so I had to do the 100% finance option so a new bike in the form of a FZ8N was purchased. I wanted a R1 or a GSX-R but thought a more relaxed bike to get back into it would be a more intelegent way to go. Its a great little bike if a bit heavey to what I like, I have an Apra exhaust so it sounds great and have put over 20 000kms on it all before its first birthday next week. I would have prefered riding through winter with a fairing but hey I like the look of the naked bikes just a bit harder to live with.
Amazingly I have squeezed that many ks out of the old Battleaxe tyres and am looking for some new rubber I like the road pilot 3's as I have done alot of wet rides but keen on suggestions from more astute riders. If anyone can recomend a decent shop to get them from that would be great also.
I have looked overseas and can get a set for $400 and fit them myself but would sooner start a relationship with a local shop.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

    Cheers Nige

    G'day mate, welcome to PSB.

Tyres for Bikes in Vic Park have a very good reputation. Otherwise it might be worth your while trying to establish a relationship with your local dealer, which in your case would be in Midland.

As for tyres, if you are commuting then the Pilot Road is a very good choice, great mix of grip and longevity.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/

As barfridge says go See Peter and the boys at tyres for bikes or your local dealer Pr2s are a decent choice still waiting to see how the 3's go over summer I might go them next.

Hi and welcome fellow hill dweller

$400 thats a bit steep, max we pay delivered from the UA of A is $340, that's only buying one set, cheaper if we get two.

We did get a lot of tyres from Hills in the Mundaring LIA (can't get more local than that ), top blokes, they'll get tyres in for you if they don't have them. We find the Pirelli Angel ST's to be top for the more commute riding, but also very good for faster stuff, we have them on the FZ1 atm, but as we can't import Pirreli anymore have swapped to the Michelin Road 2 CT's, they seem to be OK, might go the 3's for next winter though, not worth the extra cash when it's dry.

20,000km is about normal for OEM tyres, quite often get about that, am at 22,250 on my first set on my CBR600RR with a bit more to go, the rear Strada I got from Hills is nearing that as well on the Gixer750

Guess you know all the good roads out our way?? Might see you on one of thme sometime

    Welcome to the site mate!

I have a pilot power on the front and a Road 3 on the rear of my ZX6R - they have both lasted 10,000km so far including a trackday and I am pretty hard on them at the best of times - still have a decent amount of tread left on them - possibly up to 3-5000km's more. Would definiately recommend them for day to day riding. Yes I doubt they will last as long as OEM tyres, but I would rather have more grip. Next time around I will probably get even softer tyres, even though they cost more and dont last as long....

Thanks for the replys guys I will check out Hills & Tyres for bikes.
I use to run soft rubber on my old Blade but was single back then and was easy to get the cash. Powers or P 2CT's sound good. I also recon that I should be getting new RP 3's just before next winter but wife'y will kill me if I buy soft rubber for summer that needs replacing in 6 months. I have dropped the forks in the trees so geometry is more like the 08 R1 but could do with a dampener, I recon with sticky rubber I could scratch pritty well.

I love living in the hills only been up here 4 years and though we moved into a realy small house we just love the lifestyle. Riding is the best I also DH mountain bike so is the best place to be. I have been a bit warry of the roos though since someone got killed last year. Always keen to learn some new roads though so if you go out I would be keen Stoneville.

    Cheers

+1 for tyres for bikes. Have a few mates running the PR3's and are very happy with them. I did not like PR2's very much so am running Metzler Sportec M5's (for TFB's) and luv 'em. 20 thou outta bike tyres....sheesh, thats impressive. If I can get 6 thou out of a rear and 12 out of a front I'm happy.
