    New learner from Thornlie

Hey everyone, been lurking for a while and thought I should make my first post.

Got my automatic only R-E licence a year ago and have had a lot of fun riding my Scarabeo 200 for the last year. Have been looking for something more however, so am now doing some lessons to work towards my (manual) open licence.

Trying to work out what I want for a first bike - looking around 650cc so have considered the V-Strom / sv650 / gladius, BMW G650GS (ouch, pricey), and other generally adventure tourer / dualie type bikes. it seems like my choices are a bit cliched, but will take everyone's advice and embark on some good test rides once i pass my test again.

i'm often commuting to the city up orrong and GFF or albany highway on the scarabeo (black).

am hoping to come on a ride once i have something manual, look forward to meeting some of you then!

    Cheers

    Paul

    cheers everyone.

yes the automatic R-E is what you get if you do your R-E test on a scooter or otherwise automatic or even semi automatic bike, and as a result prohibits you from riding manuals. apparently you can also do your R-A for some of the bigger scooters. but if you are going to go bigger, then i reckon you might as well ride a vehicle designed to handle speed

I had my first lesson on a 250 manual last weekend and it went surprisingly well. totally different feeling from riding a scooter!

Welcome abroad, and welcome in the real bike world! Like everyone would say try them all and then choose the bike that will fit you better.
The only advice that i can give you is that i used to own a Suzuki sv650 (no s version) and I LOVED the bike! That was back in Italy few years ago and trust me, is a super fun bike, in the mountain pass she was no less than bigger bikes, very intuitive and lean into corners like a sport bike. I also travel around Europe, during my holidays ( done 4000km in 3weeks)and she was very comfortable.
After few years without a ride i just got myself a CBR; still need to get confidence to the 4 cylinder... like the power of the CBR, but miss the easiest handling of my sv!

Just saw this thread. I'm in Thornlie. Feel free to give me a shout if you feel like going for a ride sometime once you've sorted your license out etc.
