No Mid Life crisis...Just fun in the sun

Hi all, another ex biker getting back in the saddle after years without a ride. Arrived in Australia in Sept 07 and have been promissing myself a bike since then. House build had to come first and then convincing the wife that there was enough cash left in the pot and that the time was right.
With a big smile on my face I found my Bike (2005 ZZR250) and laid down the cash on the 14th March rode the bike back from Rockingham loving it all the way. Spent hours in the late evening polishing and cleaning, and after work and weekends enjoying the roads of the southwest. Then last weekend 4th April disaster.... out for a ride in the sunshine and old boy didnt see me...BANG pulled out from the local shops and gave me no chance. 27 years motoring and not even a speeding ticket (boring) no accidents, not even a parking fine then this..on my new bike. No broken bones but plenty of bruises actually managed to stay on the bike as front end buried in side of his car. 3 weeks only, 21 days. Bike is with insurance assessor at the moment, not looking too good. I think from what they told me today that they will write it off as all the plastics are damaged, forks are a gonner and who knows what else they will find, if they look.
Anyway, I will be back on the road asap, either all fixed up or i will have to look for another ZZR (just love the look and feel of it)
There are a great bunch of bikers down here in the SW and I was just realy starting to enjoy my return to the wonderful world of two wheels.
My Wife and kids though that my longing to get back onto 2 wheels was part of my mid life crisis. however there has been a big change in me that has been seen by all around, I would come in from work with a smile on my face, pop out to the garage, get the riding gear on go for a little ride and come home smiling and buzzing, I feel like a teenager again, but this time round I don' t feel the urge to ride with the throttle wound back and my knees scraping the ground around every corner.
any way there's my short story as a bit of an intro
Looking forward to meeting you all on the road somewhere, someday, soon I hope...come on Mr Assessor get your cheque book out!
    Be safe...be seen...arrive alive

Welcome to PSB, a shit way to get back into riding but glad ur not put off. Make sure you come on some rides when you have some wheels again, see you out there soon!
PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.

Hi bobz, welcome back to the fraternity!

Andy Grove may just as well have been referring to motorcycling when he first stated that "only the paranoid survive". Good luck with your insurance claim.

Nothing like a near death experience to help you feel alive.
Prefer the term "mid life can do", when you can finally spend a bit of time and money on yourself doesn't make it a mid life crisis in my books.

Wishing your next bike a longer life!

Gday mate, There are plenty of us down this way who ride. You will have to keep an eye out in the loops section and come along when you get some new wheels.

    Cheers

    Bob

Was sounding a great story till the punch line!
I know what you mean when I got back on after 8 yrs in depression/ denial LOL.
People could see the differance in me too when I got back.
Non bike riders said I looked ten yrs younger.

This is and make no mistake an addiction!!!! Good news is nothing seems to cure it.

I spent 8 yrs in Bunbury and rode after work thru Dardanup etc near every night after work. Locals must have got used to a CBX six howling throu there.

Great veiw to ocean and even better back yard!

You'll soon be back on a new beast. Hang in there.
My theory on the mid-life crisis...the term was invented by those jealous pricks who can't afford, or are too scared, to return to the days when they had fun in their life. It aint no crisis to get a bike, or travel to raunchy hot-spots or to simply have fun again. Its really a mid-life rebirth.
Dardanup, Noggerup, Collie.....love that ride. Fugg it...I'm going for a ride now!!!

hey all, thanks for all the kind words.
This last week has been the biggest low in my life. I may have only had my wheels for 3 weeks but Wow, what a great 3 weeks. I know that I will soon be back on the road, but this holiday weekend I have really missed the opportunity to get out and enjoy the south west.
Biking is a real addiction & an obsession, when you have it its a real high....just didn't realise that I would be so low without it.
    see you all soon

    Hi bobz,
Welcome!! and I hope you get your wheels returned to you asap.

There are ways to counter the sadness of not riding, especially this weekend.
Wait for all the 'I got done on DoubleDemerits long weekend' threads.
I'm not going out till Tues group ride. I can't be trusted.

I am particularly paranoid out there as I don't want to see how long I would last (mentally) without my bike after finding riding again after so long.

Look at the bright side and you'll be back in the saddle in no time.
