    1098 R Duc..

So, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything that specifically related, so I decided to start a new thread.

So here's my question... Would it be just ridiculous to commute on a 1098 R? Or massively expensive? (not fuel wise, upkeep and servicing wise)

i think AZAZL has spent time commuting on one, apart from things getting expensive and inconvenient in an accident situation it has been mentioned that it was perfectly capable of splitting at speed etc

Shouldn't be much different to the Bimota DB8.

Good times, the market is pretty wide open then. I don't know if there would be much commuting at all, because it may happen that i buy a place near the city with the payout money, but it's good to know that it's not going to be too much hassle if it comes down to having to do it.

Haha, come for a ride... Watcha riding Woody? On first riding the 1098R 3 years ago that light weight plus power plus a little useful electronica made the 1098R a fantastic street bike. (until doing a stat writeoff on a kia rio... Ducati lives! rio dead hehehe).

Occasionally, I'll use it for the CBD bank run, but I'll usually use another bike for that. But anything more that 20 k's? 1098R preferred bike. I do a lot of freeway jam. There is no way two cars on the freeway could get close enough side by side to have a gap too small for the 1098. The thing is skinny! It makes it totally safe on the freeway for any rider that watches far enough ahead to know where cages might decide to merge or lane change.

But enough of that stull. DB8. If I had cash now, I would. Are you?

Hey AZAZL, we run into a bit of a hiccupp when you say come for a ride... Because of the accident, I'm yet to get back on a bike. The bike will be coming from part of the money that the insurance comission gives me. I don't like to put numbers on it and count my chickens, so yeah, a DB8 would be the absoloute tops and the ride would have to be fucking amazing. (No doubt it would be) Definitely good to know about it being capable of the freeway splitting, means that if it comes to something like canning highway splitting, it would be able to do it. So yeah, AZAZL, you, Filbert, Buellord and Falcore and any others who wanna make an adventure of it, should come shopping when I go looking. The way I figure it, considering everything I went through, I deserve to be able to splash out a little on a bike, to make me happy....

Dude I am gona be a bit of a wet blanket here.
Your listed as being on a ninja 250, I know and have read about your freeway (life changing) moment.
Since then you havent been for a ride it sounds like .
I am kind of thinking 848 or 600, along those lines.
Just till your fully rehabed and ready for a 1098 R
Have you thought about hireing a bike for a day, just top get some time in a seat.

Ok i said it - wolves attack me now.

You actually make a very valid and reasonable point shan. Possibly something to consider woody!

Oh believe me, I've considered it, if it comes to it and I get lazy on buying the bike and the time gets pushed out, I'll be taking an F3 over any other bike on the market. I'm not just getting it to go fast, I fully respect the power of the machines. You're completely in the right to say it shan, if it wasn't me on this end of the conversation, it's the first thing i'd be saying to whoever I was talking to. Just know, that i'm not going to go and get onto a 170HP 200kg bike and go balls deep straight out. They need to be greatly respected and I definitely do understand that.

I would be so worried to have a beast like the 1098r for my first big bike. Why not ride a cheaper jap 1000 or a nice 600 and really learn to ride the bigger bikes. Then you can get the duc or db8 when you have a much better idea on riding them and be able to use the potential they hold.

Daytona 675R with a nice exhaust. Came 3rd in fastbikes bike of the yr against a very respectable competition.

Nah, I'm not going to give up. As one jack booted orrificer said whist his foot was on my head. "Your right hand controls the throttle, Mate!."

An alternative argument is not to waste your capital 'stepping up' to bigger bikes. The premium superbikes are fantastically easy to ride. You control how much you open the throttle.

From what you have been through, my personal opinion is to reward yourself and spend time getting to know a really special bike.

you can pick the jap bike riders all trying to use logic and stuff and follow the suggested racing class marketing

yes he rode a ninja 250 but he wasn't new to bikes, this is about love of the bike as a work of art not how much power he can get to the ground or how quick it will corner, before the incident he was researching mid 90s italian superbikes for the artistic presence and historic significance.

wouldn't matter if his pre rehab bike was a 250 or a hayabusa he is going to be relearning from scratch and modifying the bike to suit any personal limitations, this will be a costly, time consuming and bike specific exercise he really does need to pick the one his heart yearns for because he can't just trade up if he finds the 600 too peaky and wants the low rpm torque for idling around corners but still being able to loft the front wheel on exit like a large capacity v-twin will.

By choosing premium bikes and top level models he can make use of the included and aftermarket features such as quickshifters, ABS, traction control etc which generally aren't available on a 600 supersport or base model 848, they not only add safety near the limits but can make the bike a little more forgiving of any mistakes.

They're a completely different animal to the generic "learn to ride a big bike", around 20kg lighter and much narrower in the frame than any of the 4 cylinder bikes most try to recommend, this is a rider who won't see any point to what ifs and working up through the suggested classes as he was already taken out while minding his own business having spent more than enough time to master a 250.

You can idle around on a 1098r with usable torque and power below 5000rpm enjoying the ambience but knowing there is a lot more there to respect, or you could scream around on something smaller learning to master its 10000rpm and up powerband then have to trade up to what you wanted in the first place, sometimes logic isn't so logical.

1098 R would be awesome, but you are probably going to get raped over the insurance unless a long time rider and over 25 yadda yadda.

Still if you can afford to do it the go for it, Im on my first dooki and loving it, few niggling little issues to sort out still but she is getting to the point where every ride is a pleasure.
