Producing a whopping 186 claimed horsepower in full race kit trim, the 1198cc Ducati 1098R figures to be a major player in the 2008 World Superbike Championship.
|
from 2008 Ducati 848 and 1098R - First Look - MotorcycleUSA.com
i see its actually an 1198cc bike, its not like ducati to release a model number that hides the cc is it?

you been down to patto again ?
its wierd hey the R is ''physically'' no different the the base or S , but for some reason its certainly looks sweeter...carbin and gold wheels
having said that it would'n't be hard to bllingout a 1098/848 so it looks ''as good''
tho gotta say, i saw a black/grey? 1098s today and that looks very sweet indeed

Yes you could "bling" one out but it wouldn't go the same, fancy suspension is always worth paying for IMO.

Ducati Adelaide have an 848 which is tarted up to look like a 1098R. Gold wheels and white number boxes are the things which pop and which people will see when one is whizzing past. Closer inspection reveals the black swingarm and black plastic panels replaced for carbon, plus the obvious different forks and calipers.

If that was down in Bunno, then that would be my old mans bike which he picked up today and proudly stands proudly in the lounge room.

A friend here has got one. Except with Ohlins Superbike forks ($10,000CAD) and BST Carbon Wheels ($6,000CAD). It is pretty exclusive machinery. He uses it only for the track, as it should be.

Patto also had the nice new 696 Monster come in at the same time.
Casper and I helped unpack them.
I had a sit on the Monster, very different seating position to my 620. The seat is angled down and you sit more against the bigger tank. Very much lends itself to the feeling of peeling into corners at a rapid rate of knots It is also a lower bike. Seemed a lot more compact.
Very very nice. Me wants one.
Will post the pix up when Patto shares them.
Cal

Err, doesnt the R have a few more CC's, a few more ponies and some trick engine bits too?
Certainly I'd trade my leftie for one...

Was gonna say the same thing, but didn't think it needed it. Ti rods, slipper clutch, traction control, Ti slipons, extra 100 cc combined with sand cast crankcases and different frame to name a few differences. Nah, it's pretty much the same bike .

hey, i wasnt commenting on its very cool trick bits, what i was trying to say is that althought it has the same coesmetics/body/fairing shape as the base or the S , its definately looks better - gold wheels carbin fibre etc etc :-)

not exactly blinged up, but i'm slowly spending thousands to make my 848 look better.
Got rid of the pillion seat and pegs, new rearsets, carbon fenders front and rear, termi's, rim tape, tinted screen etc.
i also fitted the Oberon Mirror Extenders which make a hell of a difference to your rear view. No more chicken dance! and they dont look half bad in the flesh either IMO
Wouldn't mind the white number boxes next....
