Looking through the parts catalog the 1098R dosen't have much at all engine/ frame wise the same as the standard or "s" models. Too much to go into but it definitely isn't a big bore kit. Should have just bought the R.

Vee Two may be worth a call too, given their expertise in Ducati engine modifications.

not without a lot of hassle. How about an 999R motor?

Theoretically a 1098R should fit into a 1098 but some changes would have to be done to mount the intake and electronics for the R engine? I did hear today that the R frame is quite a bit different from the 1098 and 1098S as it has extra bracing around the steering head, mounting brackets for steering damper and fuel tank which can be unbolted (for replacing if damaged in a stack). Maybe some more stuff too.

1098r has the 106mm bore, the 1098 has the 104mm bore (same as 999R). Stroke length between the 1098r and 1098 is different too.
