    848 owners feedback??

to those that have or had a 848 how have they found them, I had a look in at frasers today, quite like the streetfighter, was good except for the headlight comfy too
but had a good gander at a 848 and i may add it to my shortlist, how have people found them?

I haven't owned either but the new streetfighter really got my interest up last time i was in bunbury, especially considering the times they were getting down the drags.

    Thumbs up

I previously had a 1098 and would sometimes ride my sons 848. I really enjoyed riding it to the point where I started feeling that I could throw this little animal around better than my own bike. I know it will possibly upset the traditionalists, but there was no get on your nerves bloody clutch rattle either. Dont get me wrong, I also liked the death rattle, but after a while ?
Anyway, long story short, I have sold the 1098 and now ride a baby 848 also.
Apart from the obvious shortfall in animal grunt when compared to it's big brother, IMO, it is a beautiful little bike that can still manage to get the brown adrenalin flowing with ease. To date, we have only fitted the basic Termi kit ( cans, ecu, a/filter ) and gone to a 14 tooth pinion.
It still manages to stand up and get your attention very quickly.
Patto will be doing some additional minor tweeks to both bikes shortly also.
Honestly, it's been a long time since I can recal having a bike that I totally enjoy riding like this little beast.
    Go try one !!!

I haven't riden 1 just sat on one... But went to the drags when the only non litre bikes was my gsxr750 and an 848. So spent the entire night racing one and was consistantly 0.5sec quicker on the gsxr (STD 750 vs 848 with pipes...) Even when I stuffed up the launch the 750 would catchup near the end. I'm sure your not buying one to drag race but thought you might be interested in the straight line comparasen.

so , what is the real life range of these eg sunday ride 250km a tank?

What is the handlebar vibration like?
And seat position over a few hours , is it still bearable or are there gel seats ?

Could google the seat, but want a riders feed back .

Nope, pushing a tad hard, both bikes get 180 - 190 Klm's, a smidge better than the old 1098.

It has minor vibrations and your backside is well looking forward to getting off after a few hours, but hey, it's a Ducati sports bike, not a tourer.
If I had to have a winge, it would be that the exhaust area under the seat needs some sort of heat guard if your using the bike for stop start metro riding.
Take one for a spin, it'll put a smile on your face that will out weigh any minor vibration or backside heat soak.

Could google the seat, but want a riders feed back .

    You fail at Ducati ownership.

Because comparing an L4 and a V twin is going to produce comparable results? And of course, it's all about straight line speed.

i just didnt want him getting upset if he gets one and then on the first ride has all the girls on their GSXR750s out accelerating him on the straights...

Seat wasnt super comfy.. could have done with a bit more padding...

Fail at Ducati ownership ? I can handle that, at least I acually ride my Duke.
Anyway, you admitted to picking up the Harley vibe a short while back.

I have an 848. My tank only lasts me about 140km (urban riding) before I need to fuel up again and I don't ride very hard. When I do though, I prob get about 125-130km. Maybe less. At TrakDayz, I managed 120km before needing to refuel.

But its an AWESOME bike to ride. I used to have a 2007 CBR600RR so the extra power (vs. the 600RR) is great. I've taken it to Barbs around the track too and felt the bike really loved the corners. Im not a huge guy so its nimble around corners, brakes are fantastic, and after owning a Ducati, i've noticed you tend to get a lot more looks and people coming to talk to you.

I don't notice any handlebar vibrations and the seat is fine. But I guess if you have been sitting on it for say, 6hrs straight, your bum might get a little sore.

I usually ride with my bro-in-law who has a 1198s, so compared to him, I feel like my bike is slow. But there is plenty of power in the 848 for me.

The one thing that does annoy me slightly is how you can't really see out of your side mirrors because of the vibrations. But other than that, very happy with my purchase.

I also have termi slip ons and 14T front sprocket (must have if you do a lot of urban riding), plus some other cosmetic mods.

Check out the Dec issue of 'Fast Bikes' magazine. Most newsagents still have them as its a UK mag. They test the 848 against the trumpy and 750gixer on road and track. My r6 has regulary run better times down the drags then the 848 and some 1098's as with all their torque makes them difficult to get them off the line, but I would think out in the open you'd have no prob's mowing them down or not letting them get past in the first place
