    Another Yellow Duc heading West

    There's been a few lately and here is another, a 2001 748R.

I must thank the Evil Dwarf for helping me with this purchase. Steve is a wealth of knowledge and a bloody good bloke as well. I'm just very pleased his wife didn't shoot him late one night last week when he told her..."I'm just heading out to look at another bike"

ED reports that it is not perfect and there are a few blemishes that will need attending to, but for 10 years old it's pretty good. Some OE parts have already been ordered and my plan is to keep it as close to original as I can. Nothing like the awesomeness being displayed by Kryten...my credit card may melt under that pressure.

Looks like it will be a couple of weeks before there is a spot on a truck, so it's gonna be a long wait for me.

Beautiful! Congrats! Must be about time we did a photo shoot of your collection.

    correct duc13
02 got the different fairing and paintwork. note the difference in white on tail. 2002 slashes back toward tank whereas 2001 is like the sps and curves upward.
different decals as well. not sure of any spec diffs tho. prbly not as all 2002 were built in late 2001 (nov/dec)

Thanks very much to you all, I'm pretty excited.

Knowing only a little about these bikes, I'm sure I'll be asking you lot for help along the way.

Private sale. The previous owner is a Ducati Technician and the service manager at a Victorian Ducati Dealership. He has been incredibly helpful and as I mentioned, already has some parts on order. It's a tad sad for him because other circumstances have forced the sale but I've assured him the bike will be well loooked after here in the West.

A single sided axle would be an impossibility. A single sided swingarm on the other hand...

But yes indeed they are beautiful!

Did you guys know the single sided design was actually original patented by Honda? Interesting little factoid I learned the other day.

I'm fairly sure I also remember reading somewhere that the 748R was one of the first bikes to have a different weight saving strategy of hollowing out a lot of components to save weight rather than simply using a lighter material.

It's one way you can tell a 748R apart from a ripoff.. Things like hollowed out footpegs etc.

    Apparently....

I would highly suggest you write an email to Ducati in Bologna to verify details on the bike... Things like making sure the colour is correct (tells you something of the bike's history) as well as the fact it is indeed an R..

Congrats again, I'm sure you'll love it. Just get ready for the spend addiction!!
