Aprilia

Whats peoples thoughts on the new Aprilia V4 1000? It was featured on the last AMCN cover.

Also, what would stop you buying an Aprilia.

Just curious, cos I like em!

There has been no indication of how much this V4 is going to be (rumours of v. exxy though....), and there's a 1200cc version of their own 90 degree twin coming out soon which may find its way into a new RSV! But this is all months away - the V4 should start showing up as a production model at the end of this year so they can produce enough units for WSBK. The final spec on that might rest on how soft the expensive bike market is and if there's not enough money floating around I guess they might reduce the spec to get it into a lower price point. The new 1200cc RSV is just speculation and might not even happen. A slow down in the sale of expensive bikes might make it just not feasible for Aprilia to have a sports V4 and V2 at closer price points than, say, the 1098 and Desmosedici so that might prevent another RSV from being made.

As for buying an RSVR now, well they're certainly going very cheap. New 2007 model in sydney for $21k or something. Second handies are not selling and there are some real cheapies around (a 2007 in sydney for around $17k). They're mostly reliable (there's more chance of breakdown with a new Ducati I reckon!) and if you're prepared to buy non-service parts from the USA from AF1, maybe the parts aren't that great an problem to get hold of.

And, if you want more power, have a look at the supercharged RSVR at Spoon Valley Racing and here:

got to be a bit biased as owning an RSVR but in the year I have owned it it has not missed a beat and started first time every time. I have read that the electrics are usual Italian but to date the worst I have had is a faulty brake light switch. Did a lot of research before buying it as my preference is for V2 so choice was limited and decided that the RSVR was the better value for money.

a 06 07 mille has more than enough mumbo, plus the rotax mill is pretty unburstable. Personally i stil want a 02 or 03 spec R model

Nath, there is a very neat 00 Mille at Cawesway. Admit its not a 03 but I recon it could be had for a good price.
I think they got it in about a year ago and was on the market for 20k I thought that was way too high. Now they have it marked down to 15. Took it for a ride and apart from them sending me on my way with a bike with 26 and 28 psi and the steering damper done right up (this is after me asking them to have pressures checked) the bike is a good one. Everything is good except I think the steering head bearings are too tight. Offer them 13 or 14. Would be a good buy for that. It has full Ohlins OZ rims Acropovic pipes.
This is the model that Corsa won some Championship races in 01.
AF1 Racing is awsome. I get things off them, they are quick, good price, forum is very very good. Tons of info.

Yes, I can vouch for reliability. Mines got 48 000klms, 03 model, No valves have needed adjustment yet, no cam belts to change, no technical Desmo valve system to look after/check/adjust. All I have had to do (in 2 years and my 42 000kls) is a simple electrical connector soldering job. Clutch is original (slipper) still perfect. Cost 14k, can pick up my model (Falco,SL100R) for as little as 6. A guy had one on this forum a little while ago! I nearly bought it !
Once I found out a bit about them, they made sence. Italian bike with an Austrian (German like reliability ) motor.
Try one, you may be suprised!

Went close to buying a mint low Km 2005 RSVR but when I rode it I didn't come back and think "I've got to have that bike!", then (mechanic) Derek Ball said that he had worked on them and they had had quite a lot of reliability issues, so that swayed me away from them. Still, I love the look and sound so who knows, one day maybe? There's a guy on this site has an SL1000R for sale (which would be a more practical bike for my daily commuting requirements) that I will have a peek at (although I think the price is a bit of a pipe dream).

I don't see this bike going into production personally as they would go 1200 V2 or 1000V4 not 1200V4. Would be cool to see them around though.

Whoo mama listen to that sound!
Even though I still reckon 1000cc is overkill for the street, and I love my 4-hunj, I'll be thinking very hard about one of these...

I looked at the complience plate. 02 00 , that means Feb 00
Dont know what the reliability issues are. Could you ask him? Mabey I should be having them? Oh those gold wheels....are blue underneath !! (painted.)
Everything man made will have some things from time to time go astray. But generally they are 'very' reliable.

Vtwingrin, I can recomend the bike you talk about. I have ridden it and it is immaculant. The price is very good in fact. Do some reasearch on Bikepoint. You will see they hold their price.
It is the red and black 03 model. Like mine.
