+ $1000 to get it here + $2500 minimum to fix / service / licensed makes it a bit dearish.

Nice bike, and tank pad looks great. I've also brought some good carbon fibre bits from geelong carbon Ducati Motorbike Carbon Fibre Kevlar Accessories by Geelong Carbon Craft

I've got a 1000DS and it has a look that's more timeless than some of the more angular styled bikes out there (except the 1098/1198). Probably one of the few bikes out there that got the styling right and didn't get phased out or changed for ten years, and still ages well unlike some Jap bikes that change every year.

I recently brought a lightened flywheel, vee two aluminium clutch basket and ergal timing belt rollers to reduce reciprocating mass but was looking at the DP racing camshafts as well. Has anyone else fittted these or done any engine upgrades on the air cooled motor that have been a real success?

With regards to comfort I found the bars tucked in to far and fitted Helibar risers from Mick Hone Motorcycles over east and it transformed the comfort of the bike, I can now ride it all day and not feel uncomfortable.

In real term trying to wrench much more power out of an aircooled Vtwin Ducati or any other one for that matter is a bit pointless.
Improving the ride engine wise and comfortwise is what we all strife for together with making "your bike YOURS".
In real terms these upgrated harley engines are fun but no world beaters in speed and performance!
A labour of love and pain, bit like a good mistress!
