ducati clutch basket tool and monoblock brake pads

while sussing out a 0 mile LE Tornado auction in the states ( collector has been selling off a few ducatis and bimotas for a while now, I'm sure some of you recognise the shed) i came across one of these.
Filante Racing Ducati Clutch Tool | eBay

handy tool, for a good price.

Also can anyone tell me approx what a set of brembo front pads to suit the monoblock calipers go for? I was quoted $400+ for a full front set. I may look into other brands of pads if brembo pads are so exxy.

Did you remove all brembo material from disc first? There is a procedure that should be followed when changing brands of pads.

File off the little B symbol and part number from the disk carrier?

You CAN fool those pesky brake pads if you really try!

But yeah naah, seriously I got no idea..... I got Braking wave rotors and did get the Braking pads too due to some vague threats I read somewhere about some kind of incompatibility with other brand pads lol....

There are several types of Ferodo pads available. Some work better than others depending on disks and/or road/track.

I'm pretty sure I saw something on their website about it.

Didn't realise they were so expensive Nath. Was looking through gumtree the other month and saw a full set for the 1098 for $20.
Obviously knew they were a bargain so grabbed them .
At that stage I hadn't got as far as pricing a new set , fuck I'm glad I grabbed them!

Probably the 2 pads. Benelli looks mad and it might look good with those new braking batfly disk rotors!

My S1000rr has 4 pad Brembo's and they dont seem to work as good as the 2 pad design ,plus if you put the wrong pads in they can fall out when not fully worn

Went from the 2 pad calipers on 998 to the 4 pad calipers, large difference in power.

999R runs 4 pad monoblocks with ferodo pads, very linear on the track with plenty of mumbo!!

    Horses for course I guess.

Yeh i was very dissapointed in the braking performance of the s1000rr compared to my 08R1 trackbike and even though it has Brembos stock they are not the same quality of the 1098 brembo's
RCS19 and Galfer rotors have fixed the problem of fading brakes at the track

From the Galfer site. Check last paragraph.
    • Galfer WaveŽ rotors are made of a proprietary high carbon content 420 stainless steel. This steel has many great characteristics but due to the carbon content of the steel (which gives the rotor better memory retention and strength) some surface rust may occur.
    • When installing any Galfer WaveŽ rotor, we recommend you use the OEM factory torque specifications to the vehicle's wheel. To maintain your warranty, you must use Galfer brake pads.
    • Offset the rotors (on dual front brakes) so they are not mirrored left to right on the WaveŽ profile. This will help in the feel of the system. We recommend getting your wheels rebalanced since many of our WaveŽ rotors do not weigh the same as OEM units.
    • Galfer WaveŽ rotors usually "break in" after the first 100 miles. This process should be done with gradual braking at various speeds and pressures. Do not overheat the brakes.
    • All brake rotors tend to build up brake pad compound material over time. Pad build embeds itself into the disc and can retain heat, which promotes disc warping. To prevent this from happening, and to ensure your pads always brake on good and clean rotor surface, we recommend getting your discs bead blasted at least once a year. If you are racing or use the bike for heavy sport use, you may need to do this more times during the year. Call us; we can help with this procedure.
Also instead of bead blasting you can use Rotor Hone. Rotor Hone

This should be done when using a pad different to what has been used. That is if you want best performance.

Just out of interest Rod. The calipers on the S4RS are 4 pad, was wondering if you know if they're the same spec as on your R ?
