Funny as it may be when I bought my first Ducati a 1982 ssd the shop actually encouraged you to hang around and help with the services and even a coupla beers after.

Welcome to the Internet, life and basic humour.
I hope the joke was as amusing to you as it was to everyone else 40 years ago.

I enjoy working on the Duke...

Need to do some clutch work, yawn, easy as...

Remove cover, if you even bother having one on there, work on clutch. No messy oil, no gasket to replace...

Need to change belts, yawn. easy as...

Remove cover, if you even bother having one on there, replace belts. No messy oil, no gaskets no replace, way easier than a timing chain replacement...

Need to replace spark plugs, yawn, easy as...

Try doing spark plugs on a modern Jap bike...

A lot of work on Dukes is easier than on a Jap bike...

Having had to strip my Monster, I can say it is really easy, in fact bikes are so much easier as a whole!

If my Duke didnt decide to leak from the tank I would not have been able to start playing around with it, so I look for the positives!

+1 you can have them fairly well stripped in no time.
This department requires no physical fitness program, as everyone gets more than enough exercise jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, running down the boss, dodging responsibility, and pushing their luck.

The older dukes were designed to be pulled apart quickly on the side of a race track. Hence old bevel drives have no head gasket and the barrels can be removed by pulling two of the three engine bolts out.

One of the reasons I love vee twins is their general accessibility for maintenance. The fact they seem to need a fair bit of said maintenance I suppose is the joke in the opening post.

While we're on the subject, I'm offering a carton of piss/bottle for anyone who can show me how to check valve clearances properly.

    Bike is stripped and ready.

    Cheers!
