Ducati parts from us "timing belts"

    Hey guys,

Any of you guys taking advantage of the us dollar?

After a set of timing belts and wondering if it's worth getting them from the US.

After 2 of the "737.4.025.1A's" it would seem.

Can you guys recommend a website or even a better belt than the OEM?

    Cheers.

Genuine belts aren't that badly priced considering 2 years or 10K/Kms.

I was considering getting a set of California Cycle Works belts. There were no negative reports on them but all the "experts" advised against it. The reasoning being that if an aftermarket belt did happen to let go you would definitely be up for all the expensive repairs, but if an OEM one failed you may have a case for Ducati to foot some of the bill because you have used their parts and followed their recommendations.

I got my belts from jcpakbikes.com in California for about $100 less than the local RRP. I had some other stuff on order so I am not sure how much the postage would be for belts alone, but based on this you are probably only going to save yourself about $70 by getting OEM belts from the states. Up to you whether you think the hassle is worth it.

Have you priced the oem ones here? Just got some for the 900 and was pleasently suprised at the cost.

As far as oem alternatives go, iv'e also heard good things about exactfit.

    Cheers guys,

Changing the belts look like a pretty easy affair. Have a guitar tuner somewhere here for the tension.

Just don't have the cam lock tool. One in the u.s for around $15.

    So far if I'm correct;

It's just locking the cams "with tool" and releasing the tension.
Pulling off the belts without any cam movement so no internal engine components are destroyed. *main concern*
    Re-tension to new belt 105-110Hz
Re check tension to 100hz after 500k's.

I know there's markings on the cam pulleys but I'm having a hazardous guess the belts will too to line up with those?

I usually take it to a friend to service her and will do for the valve clearances but I figure he might not be around forever.
I'm always going to have a duke in the shed.
Not to mention an aircraft mechanic should really be able to do it
I might order the belts and get some help the first time the penalty for stuffing it up is extreme.

Tried to E-mail jcpakbikes.com but didnt make it. Websites down for maint as well.

I've never done it, and I think once you get over the, "I could do irreparable damage to my motor" mental block, it's actually going to be a really simple process.

Did mine today along with steering head bearings. Watched that vid as a guide along with the manual and no problems.
Vertical cylinder was a bit fidly but nothing major , also used Chris Kelly's method of belt tension.
Started her and was no mashing of metal, so all good .

It's on the vid Desmo, slipping a 5mm allen key between the belt and the belt guide roller. This method can be used on the earlier 2 valves where the belts run a bit of slack.
I'd rather have the proper tool , but hey i figure C K know's what he's on about.
