Ducati S4Rs - Changing the belts....

Just thought I would ask this question although I think I know the answer. I have a 2008 S4Rs and I changed the belts around March 2010 and it had 1,980 kms. Well roll forward it now has 2,060kms and the 2 years is almost up. Given it has seen so little use will it still need to be changed or can i leave it. Of course the cost of rectifying damage will be alot more than the cost of the belt change, I get that but I can also just leave it under wraps and wait another year or so til i relocate....

Would like to know thoughts on whether the belts do actually fatigue sitting around.

    Cheers

Change them when you plan to run/ride it again they can sit for years and they will fatigue as well as set to the shape they're pulled into by the pulleys but nothing is going to be damaged if it's parked up.

Different story if it's being ridden I'd go with the 2 years over the recommended kms and do the same with fluids, I've done 3000kms in 2 years on one of mine but it's had 3 oil changes and brake fluid and coolant changed, in preparation for a ride of course since servicing a parked bike makes no sense
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Jules and others, wish i could believe me as its a lovely bike. As i am in Singapore and the bike is at my mums in Perth it makes it hard. It was one of those "must have" moments as I fell in love with it.

Thanks, for the advice, I suspected as much.

    Cheers and safe New Year

Just to be safe, get them changed just before you take it for another ride.
Together with some fresh fuel, oil and have a very good look at the (Front) tyres and brakes as well after sitting for so long in one spot i.e. propper service!
Belt changing/servicing is not that difficult to attempt yourself succesfully if you are a bit mechanicaly minded and do have the correct tools.

Well I think i will let the service get done by ProTwin. It is one two stands actually so the tyres are not on the ground. It is also on a battery tender and under a couple of covers inside. I will leave it til I am relocating back and then get it all sorted then as this would be the least drama I think. I also have an Aprilia Tuono Factory R in Singapore which I am thinking about bringing back but not sure about the economics of it all. The bike can prob fetch AUD12K in Singapore as it is an 2008 Dec Registered with 15K on the clock (daily commuter). Slip on Leo Vince and all the carbon bits. I am not sure it would pull much more in Australia after shipping is included, maybe even a little less. The bike is nice but I dont have a major emotional tie to it so if it makes more sense to clear it out here I will....

If you aren't emotionally tied to it then I would personally sell it.
As others have said, the belts will sit for years but change them before you start riding it.
I've also run belts way beyond their specified service life but never beyond their service intervals.
