    Ducati Streetfighter S ??

    Hi all

Since i haven't been able to test ride a Mv Brutale, i have shifted my attention to a SF S.

Personally i prefer the look of the SF but its only the 10K premium over the MV that's holding me back.

Currently down at Causeway they have an offer on which is a 2010 model Streetfighter S with Termi slip-ons for $30k rideaway .... is this a decent offer ? or should i be able to get more off?

is there any must have optionally extras to tick, such as the the slipper clutch etc etc ? i was thinking at least a tidy tail and l.e.d turn signals

btw continuing the black theme with my CB1000R, im opting to get the black SF

    thanks

    Simon
Funny enough, I was just talking to my friend about that. Our speedometer has melted and as a result it's very hard to see with any degree of accuracy exactly how fast we were going.

SF's are a pretty good ride, but they're a little undecided in my opinion...

If you like that sort of thing why not try a diavel? Much 'tougher' and a bit more comfy..

If sportiness is your thing then you may as well go a SBK...

Just my opinion... I rode a SF a few months back but I just don't quite get em...

Im taking a standard SF out on a test ride tomorrow which will help me make my decision. obviously its missing all the yummy items, like Öhlins and carbon bits. im mainly going to see what the engines like. it would be a different ride with the 'S' treatment. height is the only issue with going to a fully faired option like a 1198 etc, im around 6'6" so naked bike suit my frame a lot better.

See what you reckon. The "S" version on this bike isn't such a big wank factor as on the 1198's.. I reckon a standard bike would be fine....

There's a good argument to be had that with the money you save you could put some REAL proper suspension on it if that was important to you..

On the flipside, the "S" bikes usually get a higher turnover/better demand come time to resell... If it's a bargain price compared to a regular bike, then go for it..

I'm your height and my current sporting twin road bike is an RC8.
Much more roomy than a Ducati or Aprilia hypersport, stonking engine, and a very, very sweet steering bike.
Adjustable handlebars, rear subframe (seat height), pegs and more.... very roomy and comfortable for us lanky riders on full day rides.
Sorry to pollute the Italian section with an Austrian reference... over to you.

    Cheers Jan (MU53WA),

just spotted it. I really rate the SFS. Have had it for about 6 months I guess. I also have a 998s in the shed but find I tend to like to ride it proper fast all the time and unless you are doing somewhere around a dollar 20 to 40+ on the open road they can be a little uncomfortable. Figured my luck was going to run out eventually. Really only ride the 998 for trackdays and weekend blasts. Thought about going V rod or Diavel, but they are a bit to cruisy for me.

So I tried the streetfighter and loved it. Am a fan of all the niceties of the S models (and am a bit of a wanker) so the S was the obvious choice. (We only have S's in the shed...missus has a genuine imported from UK 748s...as opposed to all the aussie delivered ones that claim to be an S. ) I digress. I find being more out in the breeze makes me a "little" more likely to ride a fraction slower. 120-130 on the open road feels fast enough, where as behind a faring its easy to go plenty faster. The SFS will go plenty faster, but the slower pace is more comfortable and still gives you the sensation of speed. Sadly the hooligan factor has gone up a notch with 2,3 and 4th gear roll on wheelies fairly easily managed.

Have also found I am mich more likely to ride the SFS around town for shorter journeys. Have got an open face helmet for just tootling round town and quite enjoy just cruising around on it. Its nice and manouvreable and comfortable at low speeds. Dont listen to all the girly men that complain about the heavy clutch.

These bikes definately fill a different niche to superbikes. The riding position is more relaxed, and they are awesome at carving country roads with the wide bars and more relaxed riding position. I have taken it to the track once and it was fun, but will probabaly not bother again as i reckon the track is the right place for a proper fully faired superbike with a proper riding position.

Once you have the termis and chip on it, then next best power mod i did was the oversized intakes. Make a real nice difference.

Oh and your price of near enough to 30 with the termi pipe kit and filter is a good buy.

I love my streetfighter! Took a few weeks to adjust to the riding position coming from a BMW s1000rr. Now I can ride all day long with no back problems . The power Is instant and has ridiculous amount of tourque. I think it's a great all rounder and is unique to the sea of sports bikes.

Best mods 14th sproket, master slave cyclnder upgrade and double dog moto exhaust system which removes the big cans and exposes the single sided swingarm

We have the S model in Standard trim, minus the yucky carbon fibre front guard, had that changed out for a red one when we got it.

All the 'S' model stuff doesn't get used these days, so was actually a bit of a waste, but heh, he loves it to bits, though unlike Evo, he won't ride it in the city or slow

Im the not biggest fan of the RC8, KTMs headlight design team have never had a good day in my opinion. all though I am taking a Super Duke out for a test ride aswell, my mate when i was in melbourne had a black one with these akrapovic exhaust slip-ons and i thought it was one of the best sounding bikes i have heard (baffles removed)

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated

Evolution.... good to hear that the bike isn't a bitch in lower speeds. that was one of my main concerns with the bike. i use my CB1KR for my daily commute into the CBD everyday and with its typical jap refinement its very smooth at low speeds.
Unfortunately the weather this morning didn't allow for a test ride, so im hoping that tomorrow or at least Monday to take the SF for a spin

I have always been a stronger believer a getting the top tier model of the range. it removes the questions later down the track that you might ask yourself

The SFS normal retail price is $32K as far as I remember and the set of Termi's in AU cost $2700 so if this is a not a demo bike and comes with the slipons nearly $5K off the retail is not a bad deal.. Whether it's an S or not SF is a beautiful bike and handles great. Fueling between 2-4K rpm is bit off due to the emissions controls and the bike runs bit choppy making it less than ideal in suburban rides and you'd find yourself slipping the clutch a fair bit. I ended up getting the PCV installed and getting it tuned to fix this and now it runs smooth from 2K rpm onwards, now my clutch will surely live a little bit longer ..

^^^ I have definately heard of those probs with the SF but seems I might have been one of the lucky ones. Mine doesn't have any of those traits. Re its daily rideability, I am sure it will be a little way from the usually excellent user friendliness of the jap bikes , but for me is easy to live with.

yeah mate I took a standard white one for a spin. I found the dry clutch a bit difficult to work with, but nothing i couldn't get used to. wasn't obviously a smooth transition like my Cb1000r, it was either clutch out or in. Seat height and riding position was better than my CB, i felt a lot higher off the ground. the gear changes was very smooth and hardly noticed the gearing up. didn't really like the indicator button felt it was too small and needed a bit more meat on it. I love that you have to respect the ducati when riding it, after hoping back onto my CB i felt like an accountant in comparison, it was so linear and predictable. i noticed during the ride that the seat felt a tad hot on the ass, is this normal ?? did i buy it you ask ?? well i came within a faction of buying it. what closed the deal for me were two things. 1. Insurance : being 20(21 in august) even though i consider my self a responsible rider, i would still be anal raped a minimum of $400 per month to ride the sf, stretching out to $9000 per year with swann !!!! 2. Finance : i have acquired an excellent credit rating with esanda with 2 previous loans, but now they have changed their policy and determine percentages on risk, so their risk on me is 20%, to which they can fark off. my interest rate for my CB1000R was 10.5003%. I would have loved to add a Black SFS to my stable, but just could not justify the $$$ to have one.
