    Ducati's in Canada

    Hi fellas.

    In Toronto now...

Second hand bikes here are so damned cheap it almost makes me cry.

Check out the window of the local Duke dealer.. These bikes all have 10kms or less on them.

I saw a 996 SPS in mint condition.. 4000kms... Selling for, get this, 11 grand canadian... That's 10 and a bit of change AUD.

Plus I saw the Memphis Belle at an airshow today... Boing!

    Sea Container!!!!

Pop into a Ford/Chev/Dodge dealer and check out the price of a reasonable Truck.
Then have a look at the payment options........

So many things here, so dirt cheap. We get so badly screwed at home I tell ya.

I'd love to. Only problem is those bastards in customs won't let anything through. Have to protect the local interests and all...

yeah sucks. This is only scratching the surface. They had a mint condition 996R inside another dealer here. Absolutely mint... Less than 3000kms on the clock.. how much? 16 grand......

I died a little inside. My generic 996 restore has cost me $40k all up.

If it passes inspection, why can't we bring in whatever we want... God damned pricks.

If the model type has already been complianced in Aus, why can't we bring it in?

I'll tell ya why. Local dealers wanting protection from the fucking nanny state. I'd happily buy one locally - if they existed and weren't already ready to die! (most local bikes of this vintage need resto jobs coz they've been treated like shit).

Tempting to buy one/chop it up and bring it over in parts. That 999R really got me going. Fuck it was nice.

That particular one wasn't for sale though.

New bikes are cheaper but not by a lot (about 20%).. Much cheaper in the states than in Canada...

The apparel and second hand market is where you really see the difference... Full one-piece dainese suits (genuine Ducati) are around a grand. Same thing back home is what, $2800 or something... Fark me.

You can buy a sandwich here for $1.50 as well... Bottles of drink from a servo only cost $1.00.

    Poutine.. mmmmm

The dealer in that pic was absolutely massive... The apparel section alone was about half the size of a KMart. Mostly all HD stuff, my god the amount of shit available if you're a HD fan over here is just mind boggling.

The HD boys would really cry. You can get 5 year old fatboys for about 8 grand.

yeah, might have to start a psb petition, calling on bikes that were once sold here but are no longer imported or made being allowed in. let me speak to the father in law, he knows the guys in canberra, I'll see if he can give me a name.

Well ive just written off a email to Minister Albanese telling him the current import restriction's are a joke, and pointing out some better import rules and reasons why. next step is to await the normal secretarial response and them start a submission / petition, telling them we are all going to vote liberal if they dont fuggin wake up in Canberra .

Unfortunetly doubt it will ever happen. They will always say that second hands will hurt first hand sales.

Can only hope common sense rules for once though.

Well, you'll just have to import a pre 1986 (or whatever year it is) bike for a restoration project!

I test drove one of the brand new mustang's late last year when I was over there. 20 grand is what they cost!

Or put a number on the fairing and bring in as a RACE ONLY Bike.
Then no problemo, just need to transplant bits and pieces to make up a Aus Compliant bike.

Yeah you could, but you'd never get it registered. Unless you got an old frame with the ADR plate on it already...

    It's a bunch of shit.

They did have a lovely 888 though, 15 thousand kays on the clock, only 8 grand... I could get that in... Pre 89.....

That 999r had my fucking name on it though.

MH900E, otherwise known as a Mike Hailwood Evoluzione. Ducati only made and sold a handful of them, over the interwebs, many years ago. There's at least 1 of these floating around Perth somewhere.

    New which one?

1198sp is 26 grand here, plus tax (13%)

Not a massive amount cheaper... The second hand market is where the excitement is though. Crazy cheap

LOL, and Canadians complain about the prices there compared with the USA!
Click here to see my Ducati 999R in the PSB garage... You'll love it!

Don't click here to see my ZX9R aka The Ginger Ninja... there's no link!

It's mainly due to Aussie labour costs and economies of scale. Aussies demand higher wages than almost anywhere else in the world so we all pay for it. We screwed ourselves.

    Wage related inflation....

So we only have ourselves partly to blame. Ask a taxi driver if taxis are expensive in Perth if you want an example of what I mean.... Checkout chicks earn close to 30 bucks an hour on weekends now...

That's mainly why... Plus economies of scale... The market is tiny in comparison but overheads are higher.

Still sucks we can't import though. Bloody protectionism and a nanny govt stopping me getting that 999! I gotta choose from a market of tired old beat up bikes so some prick can have his otherwise failed business model protected!

    Yes right of centre fellas.
