Experiencing low low power early in the morning with 848..

    Hi all,

I use my bike to commute to work and i usually leave the house around 6.45-7am.
Lately in the last 2 weeks I have noticed that I start the bike, power is normal sometimes coming out of the drive way, then for the next 1.5km-2m, I have very little power. As in I would struggle to get out of first gear and really have to twist the throttle to get it to just move. Then, the power kicks in and the bike is fine.

I'm not sure if this is related to the cold mornings we have been having or perhaps I'm supposed to warm the bike up. I haven't done this is the past and the bike would always fire up straight away. So I'm not sure what's going on.

This only happens in the morning. Not any other part of the day.
The battery level looks fine to me. About 14.4v once the bike is started and 11.5v cold. I attach it to the charger over the weekends when not in use.
It was serviced at 12,000kms at Frasers and its now at 15,500kms.
Maybe it needs a new battery? I'm just putting it out there.....
Not sure what the deal is.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

11.5 is a tad low for a regularly ridden bike might be worth a load test at least. The other question is what fuel are you running? Some of the versions of 98 require the engine to be up to full operating temp before they start burning cleanly properly on short runs they tend to foul plugs.

I think you need a new battery but I doubt this would affect power as your ride off. I try and let my Hype warm up before riding off, I leave it on the stand for a minute of so while I close the gates and then roll down the hill to wait at the stop sign befor engaging a gear. Probably gives it 4-5 minutes warm up. I notice if its really cost the idle is 1750 instead of the usual 1300

I'm running ultimate98 fuel. Always have and standard ECU. I haven't touched the engine at all...

Might have to give the bike a warm up and see how it goes...

i've been told not to run BP 98 in my duc's due to risk of fouling and i have to say i notice it most on the 916 if i ignore that advice, unless it's a long run and i keep it singing i end up with flatspots in my throttle response, sometimes so bad that i can wrap it on and half a second later get wheelspin exiting a corner. The hypermotard is always ridden hard so i rarely notice the difference beyond an extra 5kms before the fuel light comes on, i stick to shell premium 95 or caltex vortex 98 where possible and have far less issues.

As already said, try running just Premium or even the standard unleaded.

    And what Agrid said.
