    First picture - Streetfighter 848

Not that big of news because it has been roumed for a bit, but first photo of the baby streetfighter (same looks as the big brother)

Seems like a well positioned product, but I fear that it will be considerably more expensive than the Street tripple R segment. Also wonder how much monster sales this would cannibalize.

Here is your first look at the new 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 expected to be formally unveiled this September.
The tell tail signs are the 5 bolt hub on the rear wheel just like the Ducati 848EVO (the bigger engined Streetfighter has a 6 bolt hub) and the new front end. The whole front end looks suspiciously like the one on the newly released Ducati Monster 1100 EVO which specifies a Marzocchi fork with Brembo radial Brembo calipers.
Gone are the monobloc calipers of the larger engined Streetfighter presumably to help keep the price in a user friendly range for what will be, along with the 848EVO, an entry level 4 valve model. What isn’t clear yet is what spec the engine will be in. Ducati News Today suspects Ducati will mount the 11º head that features improved service intervals and lower end torque to both this Streetfighter 848 and a presumed Multistrada 848 model to follow.

They might flog quite a few as many buyers would be keen for something more manageable in the 'burbs. If it looks the same and sounds the same it will be an attractive proposition. [ABS DTC too maybe like the Monster EVO?]

    pissing myself laughing :-)

they may be if they ditch that god awful headlight.

they would need to be 20K at the most, as by them your in MV brutale 1090RR and V4 Tuono territory.

    Yeah,

reckon the prila will provide some competition for it and the SFS 1198, especially after sir Al's rave about it.

well and truly agreed there buddy, i love them.
Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
In the backroads as it is on the freeway
Give us this day our high-octane premium fuel

As we forgive the four wheel drives, the volvos and the taxis
And lead us not into gravel corners
But deliver us from hand-held radars

Bit more on the 848 and 1198 models:

    http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news...hter-848-1198/

Hmm, a detuned 848? Hope it means upping the torque by a fistfull, changing the fuelling and ratios for better acceleration/ not so higher top end

When they detuned for the current Streetfighter, didn't it end up having less torque at low range?

Hell, whatever they do, come next upgrade I'll definitely be checking this baby out.

Am hoping with the 1198 on the way , the 848 will get the torque up as well. Those other Wog bikes are starting to breathe down their necks , and with Ducatis build quality issues in the US , they need to keep hold of the market.

Loitering on the forums , I read alot about the Ethanol/expanding tank issues, tyres rubbing on the swingarm centres and fuelling issues mainly. Other minor stuff like the Allen key bolt heads made of cheese and the pivots stripped at factory also doesn't help.

On their own probably not a major issue, but with heavily shrinking markets and stiff competition from many different manufacturers chasing the same market, you can't afford to make the same mistakes year on year.
The plastic tank issue has not yet been solved since '07 [actually '05 in reality when they went to plastic tanks], and Acerbis seems to not know or care about sorting it either...

must be the ethanol, my nelli runs a plastic tank, only ever put bp ultimate in it and its fine, must be the yanks going cheap on the fuel? Mines Acerbis built too.

if you could graft a Corsaro headlight onto it Id have one, but then I'd rather spend less, get a Corsaro anyhow ;-)
