    Fixing some electrics for 1098s?

I have a big problem with my bike - dash light, front low&high beam, left&right indicators are not working. The lights does come on for a few moments and cut itself off. Does anyone have any clue how to fix it? Otherwise I am going to have it booked for repair at frasers on monday.

Thanks. I had a look the 'dash backlight' keyword. I suspect a relay/circuit, dash, ignition connections or loose fuse?

    Check all your fuses
There's a VR fuse by itself fwd of the battery.
The others are above the batt box to the rear.
Then check your batt ...it may be poked.
You'll also need to assess the VR....there was a general recall in 08. Yours is an 08....This is one reason you blow fuses and kill your battery.
Plus, your bike is old enough to need a new battery now anyway ....get a Shorai

I just picked up the bike today from Frasers motorcycles and they said it was the voltage regulator playing up. It came with a 2 year workshop warranty if anything should happen. Battery is now okay. The repair was a costly one but I am happy to have the bike running as normal.

Wasn't the regulator a recall for the 1098's?

Yes but this problem was different due to wear and tear. I cannot prove there was one fitted during the recall because I was not the first owner of the bike.

That's a pity. I'm having trouble believing that a 2007 bike would be suffering W&T so early in its life (to clear that up, I don't doubt you, but what you've been told) I have to wonder if the reg recall was actually performed on this bike. Wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't and this is the end result. I also would have thought that the repairer would have been able to state categorically that the recall either had or hadn't been done. If the recall HAD been done, then fair enough, you're out of pocket, however, if it HADN'T, it would have been a nice gesture for the repairer (I believe Frasers) to do the recall procedure to rectify the problem.

Sorry to hear you had this problem mate.

Frasers said if it was replaced during the recall then it shouldnt happen now. The bike is already out of warranty. But shit like this does happen if a replaced part do become defective from time to time. It was unfortunate but I look on the positive side.

Cannot remeber if it was a recall or they just fixed them when they died, mine was done after it stopped at a set of traffic lights
I am sure they could pull the records up on any Ducati Vin number sold in Australia and tell if its been done

That sucks and kudos for staying so positive. Any search on the US websites reveal the VRs are crap, they switched from Japanese to Chinese, or copped a bad batch or something. I think the 999 VRs are more reliable and that's what ends up in your 1098.

Surely they can cross check your VIN? Are not Fraser's part of NFI (apt name), ergo the Ducati distributor in Oz? Sounds silly to me.
