Exclamation Hate to see you go... selling an 848?

So I'll try to keep this short. I can't go into specifics but the North American practice of the consultancy for which I work (to whom I still belong) has apparently heard great things about my work over here in Australia and may or may not have made the call to bring me back to the US earlier than expected so they can get me to take my show on the road through north american (Calgary, here I come, maybe!).

This presents me with an interesting option regarding Mia, my beloved 848. Do I ship her back to the states, or do I sell her here?

The purpose of this thread is to figure out what a fair asking price is on the bike. Consider the following:

    - just turned over 5000 k's on the odometer
    - never (literally) ridden in any type of moisture
    - garaged for her entire life
    - termi full cat-back exhaust with ECU / filter
    - ducati performance steering dampener
    - ducati 14-tooth front sprocket
    - ducati carbon fibre exhaust cover (the little thing by the pillion's right leg)

I have also finally gotten around to making the insurance claim to get the crack in the right front faring fix so in a few weeks she literally won't have a scratch on her. Also, those of you that know me know I don't ride hard, ever, so she's going to run as well or better than a new bike.

I honestly don't care about making a killing if I sell her, I own it outright and I don't really need the money. That being said, I'm not going to get taken for a ride on her because:
    - I can ship her back to the states for under $500, so there is no financial pressure for me to sell
    - I am in love with the girl

What do you guys think? What can I ask for her? I'd love for her to go to a loving home belonging to someone at PSB since you guys have been so fantastic to me over the past months and like I said, I'm not going to make price an issue.

    Let me know,
    Chris

For $500 shipping, I'd take it with me.

Just sell it and buy one half as cheap back in the states, you may not want to make a killing but you may as well make some money doing that.

Make sure it goes to a good home and problem solved.

Plus you may need to convert it to left hand drive to take it back there.

Yep - take her with you.

OK no one has answered my question. Let's assume I've decided to give up riding and I want to sell her. What's a fair asking price? I know Fraser's has brand new ones for like $22K, obviously mine isn't brand new but has about $6K of DP mods done to it.

Do mods really add value to a bike or just personalise it?

If you love her so much, whatever you could sell it for won't be enough.

There's a few online going for around 20k that have been for sale for ages. The mods make it/her much more attractive, but they never really add much value when it comes down to betraying your bike for cash.

Ducati's are cheap as chips in the States, so sell here and buy there.
No shipping, no relicence worries as the lights are shining to the wrong side etc.
And in USA this bike will be an import as it has a Aus Vin plate on it.
Mods and extra's are like a swimming pool to a house, no extra $$
    Just my oppinion.

Mods do make a difference in price, but not nearly as much as they cost to install. Eg 6k worth of odds might equate to an extra 1k when selling. I know that (if i had the money) I'd pay an extra 1000 over a similar bike with no mods if this one had stuff I wanted. But it's all relative really, depends on the buyer and the market.

I reckon you could ask 19-20k for it easily. If you're in no rush to sell advertise it in the paper/bikesales for a higher amount and test the water. I'll give you 2k for the termi system!

Bike has a USA VIN but is legally imported (little yellow sticker) so it's no different than any other 848 you guys have here, except that I paid a shitload of money to get it registered here.

    http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...l/Selling.aspx

I can sell it just like any other vehicle, the only difference between this one and an Aussie 848 is it's faster (hehe) and there's a yellow sticker on the frame.

Oh and BTW I have a 7-year unrestricted global warranty that I bought with the bike that's good until 2015, so anyone worried about buying the thing breaking down, don't fret.

Haha no so fast my friend. Bike is going on sale as-is.

It breaks my heart but to be honest with you I don't think Mia was ever right for me anyway, especially in Australia. I've never been comfortable on the roads here, riding the 848 and I don't think that will change back in the states. Once I have the claim processed and the farings replaced she'll be going up for sale, I'll probably put the price on the low side to get rid of her quick... won't want to prolong the process eh? Maybe 18K.

    Dude,
You said Calgary.....for $500 it's worth taking. Yeah, sure you might not get a decent 6 months riding in, but you're only a short blast to Jasper/Banff .....i.e. HIGHWAY 93!!

Yeah, it's an 80 zone but I was there for a week recently and never saw 1 cop (probably 'cause there's no Timmies).

Slap yourself and take the bike....

leave her in good hands for a while over here[my place would be safe]
suss out the lay of the land over there and make a calculated decision then.
Oopsie, I stood a little to close to the general public last night, and now my clothes smell of cigarettes, vodka and shame.
