    Ignitech for Dummies.

Well today I decided to have a play with the Ignitech Module in my 900ss.

First I had a shit of a job getting the puter to talk to the Module, but that was due I think, to the crappy Belkin USB to Serial adapter.

I loaded Brad Blacks map ( thanks Jules ) which seems to work pretty well except at idle when hot the engine sounded like it was running on one cylinder a bit. So to try and fix this I guess I need more advance at idle RPM?

Also what should the base advance be set at? Anybody know? Cheers.

Not much to follow at the moment...

Yesterday I loaded another map to try and the bike wouldn't even start...

So it's back to the Black map, this btw works really well, with great response and power. Just a bit fluffy at idle.

I still get some detonation doing roll ons so it looks like I will have to take it back to Pro Twin.

Thanks Monsta, I had read all that previously and do understand basically how it all works.

I think my problem is that I'm not sure that the software is working correctly.

It will let me install and run one map ok, then when I try to install the previous map the bike won't start.

While I know enough about it to get by, I don't know enough to problem solve. Might be a case of a little bit of knowledge being dangerous.

Might just run it how it is till I can get it back to PT.

when you say 'previous map' do you mean you are installing the same map that you had originally, or a map that was new, but installed previous to the one you are trying now?

Whatever was loaded into it originally was lost, I thought I had saved it but didn't. So now I have two maps, Brad Blacks which I am using and I can load up and unload no worries, works every time.

The other map is what it comes set up with but won't work for whatever reason.

OK, after another play around I have learnt some more about the science of ignition timing.

The reason the second map would not work was because the bike type had defaulted to Yammy R6 for some reason, slightly different configuration anyhow...

Every time you change the map it looks like you have to change the bike type.

So it's all good, did my first custom map which seems to work pretty well, bike starts and idles good and goes fast.

Now if I can just get rid of the oil leak.....

    Just a small update.

Oil leak is fixed with new washers. Hopefully that will be the one and only.

Had another play today, Ignitech is loaded with the Brad Black map, went for a 100k ride.

Bike ran really well, tons of grunt between 4 and 7k, rpm. Could not hear any pinging at all, so all good again.

I'm just going to leave things alone now for a while. will change the oil and filter soon ( 1000k)

    The midrange power is awesome.

Nice work. Do you have FCR's? Or other mods?
This department requires no physical fitness program, as everyone gets more than enough exercise jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, running down the boss, dodging responsibility, and pushing their luck.
