I looked at an Mv augusta at The Honda shop last week, the salesman informed me that it was fitted with a GSXR1000 motor.
I dont know about that, Ive googled about the net and couldnt find an answer, anyone care to shed some light?
I though only Bimota used Suzuki motors and MV Augusta had their own.

Sorry to hijack your thread, bikes look fantastic, just thought if your an MV fan youd be in the know about these things.

I'm no expert, but I'm sure MV build their own engines or at least sub-contract someone else to do it for them specifically.
I think Bimota have used engines from a few different manufacturers over the years . . .
    PS. never trust a salesman.

They in fact use a modified Ferrari Formula 1 engine, essentially cut in half. That's why the cover is in red (as an acknowledgement to Ferrari). There's plenty of info on it if you do a search. Try and find the video of them building the engines using an oven to keep the final tolerances low.

    cough cough... what?

The MV F4 750 was 'based' on the GSXR 750 engine, with significantly different head, with radial valving and design assistance from Ferrari

The F4 1000 is a true MV agusta engine, not based on anything else.

The red rocker cover is only on the R models and upwards - the S models do not have a red rocker cover.

WTF! I'll be giving thoses guys a visit.

Take a look on youtube for MV Agusta factory, you should find a vid on the MV factory and how their engines are assembled by hand in Italy.

It really makes me sad that someone would try and dilute the purity of an MV and try to get all the muppets on-board by saying that it has the engine of the stock standard muppet bike of choice. Just sad quite frankly

Gotto say woody, if a GSX-R 1000cc is a muppet bike what is a Ninja 250????

A muppet bike, but as you may well know, you don't get a choice with the 250's, I couldn't be bothered rebuilding a 2 stroke every 10,000 k's, so I just caved in and bought a bike I could re-sell in 365 days... What makes people the muppets, is going that road when they have the wide-range choice and still do it...

By 'muppet bike' do u mean 'squid bike'? 8 or so years ago I would agree that the GSX-R thou was the squid bike of choice (R1 before that) these days I'm not sure if that really applies to any bikes, maybe Ducatis that get ridden once a month to the cafe and back?

    Shadow is on the money......

And Deano.. I get wood when I look at mine every day. A block of wood across the back of the head from the wife cause I bought it without authority from the Minister of Finance.
