    Mgs-01

Is this correct? New MOTO GUZZI MGS-01 Motorcycles For Sale - bikesales.com.au Is there an MGS-01 race bike out there? Yay or neigh?

I should learn to read the entire text before getting excited. Not road registerable. I was flacid in like 2 seconds flat after that.

Actually if you are after a nice high end road bike (your threads suggest this) there is an Immaculate 749R in Wayne Paterson's for sale for about 26k.

Much appreciated for the help guys, I really always have been in awe of the 749R's, but i have to wait for the insurance claim from my accodent to settle before i'll have enough to get a bike (let alone the high end stuff, which is pretty much all I want ) so yeah, it's not far away hopefully, but unfortunately that bike is just too amazing to be sitting around at wayne pattersons for the next 2 - 5 months

So, just to bump the thread... If I were to purchase this bike, would there be any way to make it ADR compliant and road registerable? (providing it's not going to cost something like an extra $250,000 or something )

Been there done that. It's a big maybe and a very most likely not, so I didn't. Too risky. An alternative is to get a 140hp millipercento BB1 guzzi engine into (say) a griso. But forgetting the cost of the recipient bike, the engine is 20,000 euros. But you'd have a pretty unique tractor

emissions are the killer, a custom headlight and making it quieter are okay and relatively simple, maybe a set of milder cams to reduce emissions just for the adr testing, best bet is to speak to a mc specific ADR test facilitator, there is a guy in WA who do is, I would have to try to locate him on the weekend. cost would probably be around 5K just for his services plus the rest. probably better off waiting for the new guzzi sport bike with a new water cooled motor to come out

An aprilia Leonardo scooter headlight fills the front hole although you'd have to move the oil cooler. You'd need a side stand off a V11, 1100sporti, RS Daytona you might want to fit some kind of key ignition system (it has nothing) conventional charging system and you'd have to go for some Aprilia RSVR mirrors with the indicator integrated and do something about tail lights a German company did kits for these but they were huge dollars they were road registrable in germany through some quirk of legislation.

Then as someone pointed out there is the emissions issue, the motor is based on the old 4 valve motor which was designed as a stop gap in the late 80's early 90's it ceased production in the road bikes int he late 90's as it was getting too hard to get through emissions then, the MGS-01 would have to meet the emission standards of the day it was built which is somewhere between 2004 and 2009.

There is the other issue of do you really want it as a road bike it was built as a race bike. A gentleman that I have been in contact with in the UK got one MOT'd at great expense i.e. the purchase price of the motorcycle again. Rode it around for about 18months and then sold it to someone who was deranged enough to race one as he thought it was a pretty terrible road bike. From my personal experience I'd agree with him first is very very tall a lightweight flywheel and a sintered plate clutch its low speed manners are pretty awful (above 5000rpm it's magic ), then there is the service schedule this motor has had every hot rod trick the factory had thrown at it, chrome bores instead if nigasil big bore kits light flywheels cosworth pistons etc etc.

If you really really wanted the look you'd be better off starting with a Griso and fitting some alternative body work or you could look at trying to find a RS Daytona although they were considered a bit heavy and slow in the late 90's. I do also have a potential line on a Magni Australia (road going version). I have had some people suggest to me they think they could get it registered in other states, but there may be a bit of slight of hand involved as well. The other issue is you are messing with a hand built customer factory race bike who's total production run was about 130 over 5 years.

I've also been talking the Ghezzi Brian his kits are pretty reasonable with the current exchange rate if you want something really different.
