MWR Airfilter: An update and an apology

On January 14 I had the throttle jam open on my 998s after installing an MWR airfilter. As a consequence I started a thread which was subsequently removed by the moderators as they felt due to the inability to determine the cause the thread was unwarranted. While the actual cause is still unknown it seems unlikely the obstruction was caused by the filter itself, due to its design. I think I said in the original post that I couldn’t really see how it could enter the inlet tract, but something had to cause the throttle jam. Also, in the original post, I included a link to another type of foam filter that had been sucked into an inlet tract and caused a throttle jam. I have been subsequently advised by MWR that this filter was of a different design to theirs, and their design would make this occurrence impossible. Physical inspection of the MWR filter reveals no evidence of it being damaged as you would expect if it was jammed by the throttle butterfly.

Consequently I think it is fair to publicly clear the MWR air filter as the cause of the throttle jam. Michael at Carbon Imports and Wilco at MWR are also concerned that the original post has harmed the products reputation and hurt their business: Michael informs me he has not sold an MWR filter on PSB since my post. While my intention was not to hurt either Michael’s or Wilco’s businesses I acknowledge that I may have inadvertently done so, and for that I apologise. I would further like to add that I have done business with Michael prior to buying the MWR air filter from him, and continue to do so. In all my dealings with him his performance has been excellent. Despite the friction this issue has generated he has offered to provide me a full refund on the filter which demonstrates customer satisfaction is extremely important to him.

If the cause of the throttle jam is subsequently determined I will let the PSB community know. I would ask anyone considering an MWR filter compare it to the competition on its merits and not my experience.

    Regards, Bowie

    Hi Bowie

My apologies guys, have been out of the office for the last 2 days, prepping race bikes and our guys had practise today for the opening round of AFXC at Eastern Creek..

Appreciate you posting this, it takes a good man to publicly apologise, we appreciate it very much.

Wilco & I discussed this issue in depth many times, and as Wilco explained to me he has sold MWR filters to the euro market for a number of years and never ever had an issue with any, nor with this model in particular. We were always deeply concerned about this potential issue, even before the thread in question was posted by Bowie, and offered Bowie every assistance and option possible.. and that included the return and full refund Bowie mentioned. If the filter had been responsible we would have stood by it and faced up to the issue of any damage it may have caused, but it was not.

We stand by all our products and only sell reputable brands and quality products, firstly because I like to go to sleep at night knowing products we supply road riders and racers are doing what they are designed to do, we only sell products we would and do use ourselves. I also test a lot of our products under race conditions with the various racers we sponsor, and if the product does not stand up to the rigours of racing and perform well, we will not continue to use or sell it. I dropped a number of products from our line up last year because i was not comfortable with the quality, or fit or finish of them, whilst we had no failures or complaints, the products did not meet our standards.

Ninja, let me state that there was no threat of any kind made, including defamation.. from anyone..

Again, thanks Bowie, is nice to have great customers.

    Regards

    Michael

I've been very happy with service and products from Carbon Imports. I'll add a couple of the MWR's to my current order to try them out.
