On January 14 I had the throttle jam open on my 998s after installing an MWR airfilter. As a consequence I started a thread which was subsequently removed by the moderators as they felt due to the inability to determine the cause the thread was unwarranted. While the actual cause is still unknown it seems unlikely the obstruction was caused by the filter itself, due to its design. I think I said in the original post that I couldn’t really see how it could enter the inlet tract, but something had to cause the throttle jam. Also, in the original post, I included a link to another type of foam filter that had been sucked into an inlet tract and caused a throttle jam. I have been subsequently advised by MWR that this filter was of a different design to theirs, and their design would make this occurrence impossible. Physical inspection of the MWR filter reveals no evidence of it being damaged as you would expect if it was jammed by the throttle butterfly.
Consequently I think it is fair to publicly clear the MWR air filter as the cause of the throttle jam. Michael at Carbon Imports and Wilco at MWR are also concerned that the original post has harmed the products reputation and hurt their business: Michael informs me he has not sold an MWR filter on PSB since my post. While my intention was not to hurt either Michael’s or Wilco’s businesses I acknowledge that I may have inadvertently done so, and for that I apologise. I would further like to add that I have done business with Michael prior to buying the MWR air filter from him, and continue to do so. In all my dealings with him his performance has been excellent. Despite the friction this issue has generated he has offered to provide me a full refund on the filter which demonstrates customer satisfaction is extremely important to him.
If the cause of the throttle jam is subsequently determined I will let the PSB community know. I would ask anyone considering an MWR filter compare it to the competition on its merits and not my experience.
Regards, Bowie
