I found a 2000 model 748S for sale in Perth. The bloke is asking $9990. It's Red, has 70 odd thousand kms on the clock and apart from a sports exhaust sounds pretty much stock standard.
Is this a good price? Too many ks? Or too good to be true?

sincerely doubt it's an S model, very rare in Australia. More likely it's a 748 Strada
Whats the differance?
Wheels, suspension, frame slightly different and brakes to name a few.

If you want the 748 shape , pay a bit more for a low K one, but if they haven't been looked after properly then a 20000ks one can still bite you. Make sure it has service history and get it checked out by a pro.

Best get a low k 749S more comfort, testastretta engine, adjustable footpegs and single seater (tank and seat are one and move up and down the bike by 20mm). Get an 05/06 model as these have the better swingarm and fairings.

Very unlikely it is an S. My missus has the only genuine one I have seen in WA. 5 spoke wheels, ohlins rear shock, TIN coated showa front forks, quick release fittings on fuel tank, etc etc.
The aussie delivered ones have 748S on the complance plate which is S for strada and not the actual 748S model. So you often see people thinking they have an S. If it still has the biposto seat on it the genuine article had 748S on the side under the rear seat.
748's of that era did have some issues. Rocker arms flaking/deteriorating were one I can think of. Would be worth knowing a bit of its mechanical back ground to see if these had been replaced and when its last timing belt was done.
Get a thorough check on it. Price seems OK for a good one but they werent a very special bike as far as that model goes. The S or the R are pretty sexy.
Agree with Ducmon, the 749S is a great machinebut here is an option

Call Justin @ Pro Twin (0412 924 308), he has a fully rebuilt 916 & an almost fully rebuilt 749 Dark (I think), these bikes are immaculate. If they've been fettled by Justin they're prob better than new; worth the bux I'd say.
