    Rear Stand for an 1198

I have recently got an 1198 and I'm looking for advice on the best way to lube the chain. From experience putting a bike on a rear stand seems to be the easiest way to go but I'm wondering if that is as easy as it sounds with a single swing arm bike having never actually set one up before.

    Any advice would be great.

I apologise in advance for being a n00b.

Yeah mate couldn't be easier. Get yourself either a sharp stand (has interchangeable pins, may be useful down the track) or a genuine Ducati one. A bit cheaper, genuine, but you can't swap the pins out...

They are really handy if you want to adjust the chain or remove the rear wheel etc....

You can lube without one, but it's a bit of a pain in the freckle.

I was lucky enough to get a genuine rear stand included when i bought my bike, ive since bought the genuine front to match.

Extremely good stand, easiest ive ever used.
No lining up spools and balancing the bike, just slot it in the hub and push down- to go back, just put down the side stand and pull up.

As was said chain lube, adjustments or wheel removal is easier.
Also cleaning the wheels is made really simple.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Do you think there is any difference between the Kaneg stand and the genuine Ducati version?

I like how simple that setup sounds.

Yep that works fine in a pinch but I wouldn't do it long term.... That's asking for trouble putting all that pressure on the side stand mount...

Long gone are the good old days of the centrestand eh!

Been OK so far lol, though wouldn't be surprised if it broke. Ducati can't make anything else on it to not break.

At night when I'm sticking the bike in the office through a doorway less than 900, I have to make a 5 point turn on the sidestand to get through another door, to be able to close the front door. Every time. Scratching the mirrors heaps. Swinging the bike on the sidestand hundreds of times. Not broken yet, it might break one day, but that's the reality of my situation for storage.

For lubing without rear stand, have it on the sidestand on the road, spray heaps on the exposed part of the chain, move the bike about 400mm, repeat. Chunk of cardboard to stop overspray on the tyre. Yes, dodgey as all F
