    RSVR Questions

Ok so I got me a RSVR (2006) which is a bit of a epic fail as I have been running around for the last 18months, I'll buy something with a big fuel tank and comfortable seating position, something I can point at the nullabour and go. WTF is wrong with me aside I need to get it licensed I have got all the OEM bits the previous owner had including mufflers although I was just going to sling the DB killers in the pipes it has on now and how the locals won't notice. It does have a fender eliminator kit fortunately its a bolt on and not a cut and shut job. The original number plate bracket is also included however it consists of a long skinny bit of plastic with a reflector on the end, I'm thinking there should be more to it like a big flat plate attached to the long skinny bit. If anyone out there can remember or take a pic of the OEM Australian one that would be useful.

Its in pretty good nick although there seems to be a few other issues, the side stand doesn't self retract this surely is not normal or right! There is also this big oily thing running from out the back of the motor to the rear wheel, it might be some kind of drive mechanism, it looks really crude though this is supposed to be a modern bike!

At least it has the correct amount of cylinders.
And they installed the motor in the correct orientation.

that oily thing you can get rid of, it also makes noise when it dries out.
I almost bought one of those bikes in 2007 when i bought the R1.

The original fender is correct with the long thin reflector holder. If was in 2008 when they got all anal on the ZX10R and fitted the A4 size plate.

Win. You have the best bike collection. I kind of dislike you for it.

Beautiful colour. They are awesome bikes. I had a 2005 Factory but sold it before moving here. Big regret. There are quite a few good reference points on the net with some pretty helpful Guys - albeit in Uk. Try Aprilia Performance. Back brake is pretty useless, but the front is killer! Think the 06 onwards comes with a heat shield, but doesn't make a ton of difference. I put some heat wrap around the pipes to try and keep some of the heat away from the rear master cylinder. Best thing I tried was regular bleeding and ro hang a fair size weight off the lever to keep the fluid pressure. It works quite well, although doesn't last that long. Keep the battery well charged, or make sure you get a pretty hefty good quality one to ensure that there is enough power to turn over the sprag. I'll stop rambling. Never had any reliability issues and even went touring to Europe for a week - not as uncomfortable as you might think.

Oh yeah, there's a side stand modification too-oem doesn't stand out very far offering much support. Think people have replaced with fireblade and possibly even gsxr1000 stands but there s one made specifically for the RSVs called a bubsywoo stand.

One thing I found when crossing the Nulabor on an 06 model was that the clutch fluid kept boiling creating bubbles, Bled it each night when stopped, semi cured it on the trip by moving the clutch lever so it was higher which alters the position of the bleed point, since then put in Motul 600 fluid with the higher boiling temp and no problems, there is a mod you can do for the rear which moves the master cyl to same place as the V4. but I believe it can be done with a KTM cyl as cheaper. that ws somewhere on AF1 aprilia forum. Found the trip there and back comfortable, enough to do 1600km in 1 day on the return, back to Perth in 2.5 days. my sons were certainly not as comfortable on a blade and gixxer!!

Another has seen the light !

Check to see if the wiring mod has been done. Look it up at AF1 forum. A clue will be if the white connector plug from the regulator gets hot to the point of melting wires. It is an easy fix. There has been one or two stator problems and sprag clutches gone south.

But with aprilia`s at least, they are very robust bikes generally and any problems you find there is always great friendly help at AF1 forum. Parts are 1 week away (USA) from the shop section and even closer from Dave Ward Moto Italia. (Forza) on the forum. He is in NSW Moto Italia What he dosn`t know about these things, aint worth knowing.

Give it a good hard caining, they love it !

I'll check it but the idea of buying a bike thats not the very first of the series and done just under 30 000kms is most of the hiccups should of been ironed out.
