Services, who's the best
Hi ,
I am a new ducati owner a 749S with 8700Ks and I guess the 10K service will be due soon, any recommendations, I have heard of Eurocycles in Vic Park and Pro Twin or should it be done at Frasers?
Any advice appreciated.
thanks

Andy doesn't really do the testastretta motors as he hasn't invested in all the necessary gear. he has enough work without them! Either Justin at Pro-Twin or Morry at M'cycle Masters for my 749R

The 749S has the "heads off" valve clearance adjustment yeah due to the retainers yeah? Like the 749R and 2004/5/6 999R?

Hi,
I don't know if the valve adjustment on the S needs the heads off, I have the manual on PDF so I'll have a look.I am in Kardinya so I don't think there is anyone close anyway.

Head/cam covers to do the valve clearances, need to be checked every 10,000 klms. The testastretta motors have head covers whuch make it easier to do the vale clearances.

Thanks Ducmon,
I had a look at the manual it has the info on how to check the clearances but not the proceedure for adjusting them,at this stage I will leave it to the experts but maybe in the future and a heap of factory tools later I may have a go. I am also interested in lowering it slightly as I am on the balls of my feet at the moment but I beleive I would have to lower the front and back the same amount so may get professional help for that aswell.

Justin @ Pro Twin or Morrie, used both peeps, both know their stuff, both nice guys.
Justin has the edge if your wanting something 'extra' done as his experience is ex Veetwo & he's a fitter & turner by profession.

Testastretta heads don't come off, head covers do for the valves clearances.

Testrastretta heads do come off, if they've got the tapered collets or something? 999R 2004-2005, 749S and 749R of some years have those ones.

Have an 05 999S and no the heads do not come off for a valve service. I don't know where you're getting your info from but I've worked for a Ducati dealer for the past 6 years and never seen the heads come off for a basic 10 or 20,000 klms service ( which includes valves on both).

999S doesn't have tapered collets. 999R 2004-2006 does. So does 749R, and some 749S (05/06 I think). I think the Testastretta Evoluzione engines have a different way again, heads don't need to come off (except the 1098R - heads off...)
I have done a bit of research on tapered collets lately......watch this space!

And how are different collets going to make the need for the heads to be removed? You do realise they are only used to retain the shims in place don't you?
