I forgot to tell him that MV's run in properly at approx 2500k, then they loosen up and all hell breaks loose.

I'm looking at a 2004 F4 1000S. It has 18800km on the clock. Is all original, a bit of a paint ship in the tank, chip in the front fairing which both should be able to be repaired reasonably easily. Needs a good wash and polish. Exhaust has somehow melted through the inner guard and started chomping through the toolkit too! Should be around the $17k mark.

Great Rod, hope the deal goes through.
NO cooling issues with the S model, so she should be good to go.
What colour mate?

Is red and silver. My wife ain't too keen on it as it is a single seater... Cheap though! I'm doing more digging around to see what service stuff comes up after 18,000km.

Oh yeah, F4MV = monoposto ONLY!
I mean who'd wanna sit on the rear seat anyway
18000 kms service is quite tame, 24k is valves, 36k for cam chain.

MV is going fine... first service out of the way... not cheap, but my mechanic has done a superb job. (S&T Motorcycle Art) There is something special about when you hand a peice of machinery over to an aircraft engineer, workshop floor you can eat off... I didn't know such a workshop existed in Western Australia.
It now has a hugger fitted to keep the crud off the shock and swing arm, luxeon LED park lights and I have upgraded the headlight globes (not too much bling really needed to put on these) still not used to a hydraulic clutch, more power would be nice... as I saw a 1078 (190HP), and I thought... you know, that would be just fine.

oh ok then...
Bike is going great... just clocked 3000km and have now dropped the last of the mineral oil out and am running double ester Motul 300V. Nothing come cheap for this thing as it received a $45 oil filter and $100 worth of oil. *whimper*
Still not really a fan of the hydraulic clutch, but I guess after 10 years of cable clutches that is to be expected. Slow corners and little round a bouts are not what these things are designed for.
Throttle response is very very crisp (possibly a little too crisp) While it drives quite hard from any RPM in any gear (shit loads of torque) it does some what lack that top end surge you expect from an inline 4. Possibly the fact that it is geared quite well from stock and not stupidly tall as jap bikes plays a part. An extra 15-20HP would be nice to restore some top end surge. An extra 2-3000RPM would be nice to hear this thing really scream. It really would be nice to have a bike of that size rev to about 17,000RPM.
On long sweeping corners it really feels planted this is where this bike belongs... cranked over on the throttle, if nothing else this bike will help my corner speed (something that has been destroyed by my time on R1's) and as such makes my Mito ownership redundant... nothing other than nasty bumps will upset its line... so with Perth Roads its line gets upset a fair bit, but its still fun.
Matte Black is a royal bitch to keep clean and every single scratch shows, it also scratches quite easly so the next person to rub their hands (along with their rings and watches) over the tail or tank while declaring "It's a nice bike, mate" will cop a blunt knife in the throat, mate. There are 2 places and only 2 places that your hands go on a bike... the left handle bar and the right handle bar.
I'd like to extend a great big "fuck you" to MV Australia for not honouring their web advertised offer of a MV bike cover and Corse cap, granted to all Nero owners. *cunts*
Quite happy with how she behaves on the back wheel... wheelies nicely off the throttle in first and clutch ups in second are becoming easier (bastard hydraulic clutch).
I would like a bit more noise from this bike, ideally the catalytic convertor needs to go(fuck the environment, it's so far beyond screwed it won't make a difference) a louder set of pipes would be nice, it would also release those extra HP that I am craving for. The induction growl from this thing is truely inspiring, utterly fap worthy, best RAM air I have ever heard.
Still on the "Must do list" is a high flow impellor for the water pump, and aliminium fan blades off to ebay now to search...

Great! It sounds like it's going gangbusters! I believe replacing the exhaust section containing the cat with a "cat free" one is one of the first things to do with the F4. It opens up the flow of the exhaust and does reduce some heat. Some people have had decent gains on the 312 with the Arrow twin muffler system but it doesn't look as good as the four pipes I reckon. I'm not sure about what to do with the ECU - I think the earlier 1000cc F4's had eproms and the later have the locked ECU like later Ducatis.
