    Swingarms?

I thought Jules had the mother of Swingarms, then I spotted the swingarm dreams are made of......

    Ducati Dymag CARBON FIBER Swingarm 748 916 996 998 : eBay Motors (item 270536757943 end time Mar-07-10 01:00:00 PST)

Is this a good manufacturer? I wonder about the pivot points carbon/metal match with so much relying upon it?

It does have a certain magnetic force........

Dymag stuff is okay - I think they were doing things in carbon fibre before BST existed. I think BST picked up where Dymag left off. Dymag went into administration last year - I don't know if they're still trading or have been wound up.

Thanks for the tips guys. It did look delicious but I would have ALOT more faith in BST products.....and Jules...that BST swing arm is HAWWWWT!

(I already have a growing pile of bits to be fitted...and another trolley full from Desmotimes still coming...gotta stop at some point, had to use ALL my will power to NOT buy that swingarm)

The double sided one looks fantastic!

So in regards having a CF swingarm, wouldn't that make the swingarm a tad to light? I remember that ducati had to go from full carbon to partial carbon/aluminium as they were having rear grip issues (I think?). Maybe it is only a problem for MotoGP level racing...

yeah, I was having trouble grasping how you would deal with suspension settings? ......some more $ thrown at trick Ohlins gear to deal with it perhaps? (and afformentioned traction)

It then led me to think a CF swingarm would be pointless without CF rims?
well ok maybe not...but I think everyone would agree you can't run standard rims on a CF swingarm..... ...
followed by trick running gear ......etc, etc.....the ole Jules cash trap!

But seriously, wouldn't you need to fully change suspension and running gear also?

CF swingarm would be nice, but, as already said it might just hurt the old bank balance
with extra's to get it all to gel together...

Main reason for me on the Mag Swingarm is the extra 20mm in length.
Once its in place I hope it helps out with stability when on the juice.....

....just trying to figure out what the 'whole package' would be?
    Thinking;

    Swingarm
    suspenders
    rims
    sprocket etc
    maybe fancy wavey disc thingy

...wondering wether I just put that $ toward a whole 'nother bike....

    Thats just it...

With the $$ I spent on mine, i could have just bought an 1198S with all the gear and some.

    But, I like the 998's....

As you have already said, once you start on one thing, the ball is rolling and everywhere you look on the bike there is options to improve...

    Doesnt stop......

ps. would be pretty awesome though!!!

    Which double sided one?

It's a swingarm from a 916, not a MotoGP bike. They had their own problems with regards to the standard swingarm, back in the day, regarding the weight and length of the thing. Swingarms don't need to be any particular weight - the lighter the better.
