What plugs are you running in you 900SS?

The workshop manual says Champion RA6HC. I put a set of NGK DCPR8E ( the NGK equivilent of the RA6HC ) plugs in the SS a while ago. Went to get another set today, no luck. Rick Gill had DPR8EA-9, I got them but am thinking twice now.

What plugs do you run, and any likes / dislikes with them?

This department requires no physical fitness program, as everyone gets more than enough exercise jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, running down the boss, dodging responsibility, and pushing their luck.

The DPR8EA-8's or 9's. Mine goes through them fairly regular, specially the front. When I put the coils from C.A Cycleworks Im pretty sure you are sposed to use non resistor type but never bothered myself.

@ Palms - are you running the stock coils or the CA Cycleworks ones? I have both ( long story ) so can put which ever ones on to suit the plugs I can get / have got.

Cycleworks coils, sposed to be able to run a larger gap but I've stuck with stock. Has fiddling with the plugs fixed your probs. Mine coughs and pharts and splutters when the plugs are shitty but give them a buff or whack in news and all is fine

Running NGK Iridiums in mine. Can't remember the #, shouldn't be hard to find out though.

    Edit..... NGK DCR8EIX.

Thanks for your replies guys. I'm going to fit the DPR8EA-9's I got yesterday.

@ Palms - I haven't played with the plugs yet, this is the attempt at seeing if the plugs are the problem. Seeing as you and Jules are running the same plug, I'm going to stick them in and see what happens.

I ran the bike up in the garage yesterday with the first set of plugs which I put in it some time back, listening to it carefully. These were the DCPR8E ( which are 0.024" gap ), which is what all the manuals say is the correct NGK plug. Then I put the new plugs in, couldn't tell any different. These were the DPR8EA-9 ( which are 0.036" gap ). Both of these are with the CA Cycleworks exactfit coils and leads. Didn't have time to take it for a lap, hopefully tomorrow I can do that. Not holding my breath for any improvement though based on the garage running.

I should be able to ride it either tomorrow or Friday, and if it still doesn't come to the party, then yes it will be a compression check for sure.

As I suspected, no different with the new plugs.

Maybe it's the rider imagining things and not the bike??

RA6HC are running fine in mine. Still on the original coils and leads. Or rather it was good until I started taking the bike apart.

And after a recent issue with the wife's car, I'm thinking Jules' compression test might be a good idea.

I was having a little look around yesterday as I wanted to order plugs with the other parts I ordered from CA Cycleworks. My owners manual says Champion RA6HC and to cross reference to NGK is DPR8EA. The prefix DC on the DCPR8E means it is a 12mm dia with a 16mm reach. The RA on the RA6HC is a12mm dia and 19mm reach where the DP on the DPR8EA are 12mm dia and have a 18mm reach. I can't post links but if you google you'll find. CA cycles says DCPR8E for All Ducati except Testa. So now I'm confused run short or long reach?

The lengths given are for the thread length and shouldn't make any difference. Both plugs measure 24mm to the very tip of the of the earth electrode.

And a heads-up; unless NGK have changed their design in the last few years, your 16mm-5/8" spark plug socket that fits the Champion doesn't fit the 18mm NGK.
