    Who has a Ducati Streetfighter?

    Hey all,

I've recently got a been in my bonnet about the Ducati Streetfighter.

I love it. I can't afford one. I love the bike I have at the moment, no complaints whatsoever.

I am seeking some feedback from any owners on the forum. Very keen to hear how you're liking it, what you like/don't like etc.

    Thanks very much in advance

Bernard: Well, I didn't ask for the job of insulting you. In another life, we could have been brothers. Running a small, quirky taverna in Sicily. Maybe we would have married the local twins instead of wasting each other's time here in this dump. But it was not to be. So hopit.

Heaps of people I know have them, we have the 'S' model, other half reckons it's the ducks nuts, best bike out, oh only for open riding though, he won't ride it in suburbia, some do though Mr M, 1098SF, come to mind. He reckons the clutch is too heavy, he wouldn't mind if it was a nice easy clutch like the Gixxer's.

Me personally, I don't like riding it, the ride position doesn't suit me. He reckons they are pure sex on wheels, meh I can take it or leave it.

It is not bike for going slow on!

Wow thanks for that Stoney. I can imagine being a 155hp twin it would be hard to rumble around at the speed limit. I've read nothing but good things about reliability, and also the services say they are only needed at 12,000km intervals after the first 1000? What are the service costs like?

Any other reviews/opinions on the bike would be greatly appreciated.

Have the S also and love it. Doesnt bother me around town, but it is in its element scratching around on country roads. My only complaint on a long run (1500km weekend) was a sore neck from the wind as i normally ride a Ducati 998s and the slightly more forward riding position and the windscreen doesnt have you in the breeze quite as much. I am sure I will get used to it. Alternatively could also fit a mini screen but not likely to.

Rumbing around at near thwe speed limit isnt too hard as they sound great and are quite happy just loping along. But a quick squirt in first and second will have you at go to jail speed in the blink of an eye, as do most modern litre bikes. Does nice roll on mingers in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Nothing like rolling on to pass some harleys on the highway and saving on front tyre wear at the same time.

Servicing intervals are reaonbable but you'd be mad IMHO if you didnt do you own oil change in between services. (ie. fresh oil every 5000)

Have run it at the track once. It was OK, but will only be using my 998s in future. The street fighter is easy to punt around the track but not as rewarding.

Definately a great all rounder. OK around town, great for a sunday scratch, or good to put a gear rack on and do a couple of days on the road.

Here's Andy's screen helps quite a bit and doesn't look too yucky, he changed out the carbon front guard for a red one as he thought the carbon one looked odd and out of place.

Semi home made screen for a 1098 Ducati StreetfighterS

Undoubtedly clutch is slightly heavier than the gixxer's but it is not to bad, I guess got use to it now .. It's not as smooth as gixxer around suburbia at low speeds, it does the job well but it prefers to go fast ... I love it and agree with Andy SF's are pure sex on wheels + it sound great with the Termi's ..

I got the screen for my SF thrown in as the part of the deal. It does make a very slight difference at high speeds but to be honest it is not worth the price tag.

I have just the standard sf and agree with the others its an awesome bike. have ridden few other late model naked's lately and none in my eyes come close. the guys i swap up with on country runs from time to time think the same. check out the kowkika's bike review in general stuff as the street fighter has a write up in there. same as the other sf's doesnt like low rpm or real slow riding but is do able around city not as a commuter thou. bike now has 18000kms on it and still going strong had little issue with abuse to clutch but was nothing really in the end. recommend open clutch cover to keep it cool. roll on's are easy as even from someone that likes the front wheel down. same as evolution yeah ducati say its good for the 12k intervals but change oil mid service duc shop even recommended it. on alot of runs people have always gone oh no a ducati we are going to have dramas but its been the jap bikes on the runs that have had the issues. and its usually the one giving the duc crap that breaks down ha ha got to love that karma. one funny thing that was pointed out to me is the bottom cooler is actually a ktm part if you look on top its stamped on it.

Stoney has it right, its not a bike for putting round the streets on.

I prefer the speed triple for around town, so much so that I brought a speed trip to ride in the city and use the Duc on the country roads. Its much more fun to ride the trip, you can throw it round easier and its engine is much more easy to control at lower speeds, but the Duc comes into its own in the country.

I liked it, but I wouldnt buy another one, the bikes I have now I prefer both in the city and in town. Funnily enough it took me a couple of thousand Kays on the SF to get comfortable on it - but the CBR I've done 600 and its like I've never ridden anything else.

Pros: Looks and sound - cant beat that twin thump and the engine and handling in the country - sticks to a line bloody well and pulls off the line well. Its no cooky cutter either.

Cons: That god aweful dry, hydraulic clutch - used to shit me to tears. Hard to ride at 60Km/Hr - the engine really doesn't like anything less than 4000RPM, if it drops under that its all spluttering shuddering unsmoothness. Loves going past 4000 though I did find that redline came around pretty soon too.

I also think the weight balance of the bike is too far towards the rear, makes the front end a bit light, but I'm well biased

^^^^ I think you guys need to man up. There is nothing wrong with the clutch if you have proper man hands.

Re the spluttering at low RPM I have heard there are good and bad ones. The early ones suffered from it and you could get an ECU upgrade/reflash from ducati dealers. Mine doesnt suffer from it at all.

Have fitted termis and the DP ECU. Am just waiting on the large carbon intakes and then will give it a retune/reflash to make sure the fuelling is spot on.

Will be a Perth shop on the tune. (but not a Ducati dealer) Will know more shortly. They have experience in tuning Dukes, but relatively new to reflashing the late model ECU's.

Will be sure to pass on experience/info once its sorted.

Haha, yeh it wasnt so much that I had a problem with the clutch, its just I just prefer a wet cable clutch, I prefer the feel of them, to me the dry hydraulic clutches are old tech and can (not all do though) lack feel. Each to their own I guess. I have to admit I like slipping the clutch a bit to keep the revs up around tight corners..... I had Termis on mine too and it was chipped, but there was no way it was smooth below 3500/4000 RPM. Not compared to a triple or an inline four.

Heh hey, look, its captain clutch himself! If this was a KTM thread you could regale us with stories on how reliable and steadfast hydraulic clutches are!

Agree 100% If you guys think these series of clutches are hard work then you would cry like a little girl after 5 minutes if you rode a 1976 900SS with its' cable clutch

No grand tales to be regaled here!

An after market mod and a prayer, and thus far she's all sweet...
I'm the first to admit that the clutch on the Kato is a complete balls up, I had to live with that friggen thing! *rages*

Still, my hands are large enough to reach the the lever without straining my fingies so that makes life a little easier...

Nothing wrong with Hydraulic clutches, 28000kms later and still works perfectly

Didnt your clutch have some leaking issues Harro? I hope not cause it might be my bike soon
Men have motorcycles while women have mensutral cycles, you can't talk to either while they are on it. The women's also has a sound, it goes nag-na-nag-nag-nag, biiiiiitch-bitch-biiiiiiiitch!
