    why does my engine rattle?

when I roll it on its side...

I bought the 748 a few months ago to 'mostly' use at the track.
Anyhow, out there a few weeks ago, first session, about 3rd or 4th lap, flat out going over the top of the hill...

    anyone got a spare engine?

    no its a chicken wing......

    of course its a conrod.

if you look down into the hole further you will see the shiny crank journal, and the connecting rod (conrod) for the other piston, which goes to the top of the picture.

Give Justin @ Pro Twin a call, he usually has a variety of spares around ... could even make it a 'special' motor for ya.

That's a sad story right there. Piston and rod in tiny pieces - you need to find the cause for this calamity. May have lacked clearance between piston and head - may have come loose at the big-end, which causes above-mentioned lack of clearance. Just check piston/head clearance on reassembly - needs around .032" (.8 mm) clearance between the piston and the head's 'squish band'. These clearances are critical, and should be equal between the two heads. 32 thou is a minimum - more is safer, but costs performance...
