why don't ducati owners acknowledge other riders?

    Hi all,

So, I was hoping one of you motoitai guys could clear it up for me why ducati owners will refuse to acknowledge the existence of other riders. I find you're average other rider (bar the small exception) will look over and nod, or say "g'day" through the helmet, show some visible sign of excitement someone is sharing their passion, or wave or something as you either pull up next to them, or go the other way.

I don't think I've EVER seen a ducati owner make so much as a head turn, bar my old man who rides a monster (and maybe Rich, when he was around). I remember when I had my aprilia sxv, I pulled up next to a guy on an 1198R, who wouldn't even turn his head after I said hi or anything. I was all excited because I was one of you, and it still wasn't good enough! I chopped him around the outside, FYI.

I'm curious why this snobbery is?

Even if you say you aren't like that, surely you must know a ducatist that is, feel free to delve in and answer on their behalf.

Do you think you're better than us?

Do you think because you spent more money on your bike that means you are above extending a simple gesture to your riding brethren?

    Curious lee is curious

They are just sitting there in blind hope that their bike will actually pull away from the lights without breaking - they dont have enough time to acknowledge you - they are too busy worrying...

They're the harley poseurs of the sportsbike world.

Somehow because they spent $10k more than the equivalent Jap bike, it must be better. It's about the sound and the feel and the soul.

(and I feel like I've just fallen into the "the problem with harley is..." thread

It's just you Lee, we acknowledge most other riders. Except for Kwakka riders because we feel sorry for them, Suzuki riders because they're girls, Honda riders because they're just boring to talk to, Yamaha riders because we're sure that we've seen them too many times today, Aprilia, Benelli or MV Agusta riders because they just want to know what's better about the Ducati they're sitting next to, Harley riders because they always look unhappy (never smiling), Buell riders because they're basically Harley riders and BMW riders because they always talk about how much better motorcycles we're back in their day.

    Nobody acknowledges Hyosung riders.

Though I'll nod and wave or chat to every other bike rider, except for Royal Enfield people because they're all cops.

Thus it is explained why they always wave at me!

So many responses from so many Ducati owners

The problem isn't them, it's you. You need to do more wheelies, everyone loves wheelies. Ducati rider didn't acknowledge you? Do a wheelie. ST1300 rider didn't wave back? Do a wheelie.

And the KTM's are simply forgotten, as usual.

I know I can't be arsed going all the way to the service department to wave to the riders waiting for theirs to get repaired.

When your eyes are glued to the temp and oil pressure gauges, it's a bit hard to see other dudes waving.

It's better to be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Pure speed in sixth gear on a 5,000 foot straightaway is one thing, but pure speed in third gear on a gravel-strewn, downhill, ess turn is quite another.

They are all S.N.A.G.'s who dont relate to scooter trash, if they let go of the bars they run the risk of putting holes in the scenery.

Many more smart arse answers available but I have met some good dead cat owners and some image conscious types also. Possible the Italian sports machine thing, who knows?

I was one for some years (which never let me down) and met plenty who were in awe of the constant use and abuse dished out to that ride. I will and still do wave and talk to anyone, especially about bikes. Geez I even ride a souless electrical disaster area called a H.O.N.D.A. (That still is to let me down) They are motorbikes guys, I prefer noisy, relatively fast ones, ride the fucking things and try to keep up.
