    Ducati out of WSB

    It's official.

    Apparently.

Don't expect the sun to rise tomorrow, life as we know it is over. Apparently.

Maybe a year or two out of the sport will see them focus their money and manpower on the moto gp and a new bike for the street? The 1098 series has been out for a few years now (3or so??).

Might be just what they need...every manufacturer needs a time out here or there.

Fucking pussies. Like a 20% displacement advantage wasn't enough for them?

LOL, just like Ferrari when they stopped winning races in F1 and threatning to leave the sport instead of HTFU.

Maybe the small Italian team can't afford to have SBK and Rossi. I blame Rossi

Watch them go all out in MotoGP... they are taking on a big risk if they aren't shown to win early, and win consistently, with Vale onboard.

What Rick typed - more V4 roadbikes for sure... dumbed down 'sedici clones for the masses.
The prospect of less v-twins does break my heart though...

Two strokes all but gone, triples (i haz some) dwindling.... now v-twins look like being lost and forgotten in the manufacturer's quest for heightened specification and increased (design) efficiencies & competitiveness.

    Oh the humanity.

    This makes sense.

Can you imagine the bad rep they'll get if they can't even win with Rossi on board?

Given that he took the shitty yamaha (at the time) to the championship in his first season after the honda switch?

Sure, he's older now, but if they aren't at least VERY competitive in GP next season, there is no excuse really.

Rossi failing to win on a ducati = pretty bloody bad publicity for them if you ask me. Huge risk, imho they would have been far better off picking someone to ride the bike who hasn't peaked and is at the start of their career, like Lorenzo, Pedrosa or Spies - there's not so much past history to live up to...

They may/may not win as much immediately if they went for someone else, but the perception/expectation of top level performance wouldn't be as high...

    edit:
Also, according to AMCN a few months ago, they have a brand new v-twin motor in development to replace the 1098. No longer L layout, but a proper V to make the bike shorter, etc - using technology developed on the Desmosedici. As per the press release, maybe they know the 1098 won't be competitive, but the new bike is not yet ready.... rumor has it they're in talks with bayliss again...

About time they took those emphysemic twins away and put out 1 rule again, 1000cc. Allowing an extra 20% capacity because of second rate engines is nonsense. Send them back to BEARS where they belong.

But what if he isn't any better than Hatden on the Ducati, is it still Ducatis fault? He needs to be better than Hayden for it to be the bikes fault.

I guess Ducati have now become "image bikes"
    07 MV F4 1000R
    09 "Blazing orange" Speed Triple
    07 CBR 600RR trackbike

Bit of a shame really. Not a big Ducati fan but... It can't be good for the sport to have major manufacturer's pulling out.

Even though they were getting a good deal with the engine capacity.

I was kinda hoping Bayliss would maybe make a comeback.

As long as Rossi takes his team over from Yamaha like he did from Honda then he's got a good chance of winning on that bike, it's great that Rossi is an amazing rider but he also knows his management/bike setup has to be the best, so he takes his entire team.
