Gardner Stand, Bass strait, Siberia South stand or Lukey Heights Stand ?
I'm thinking of going, but never been to Phillip Island track before..

Siberia for me but take your wet weather gear and thermals. 14 degrees at P.I. = about 2 degrees with that bloody wind. 90% chance of rain on Sat 20% on Sun.

Out of the 3 stands I've been too, Bass straight was the best, as you get to see the boys coming over the hill on the straight, all of Southern loop (awesome corner), they come flying past at turn 3, then head into the hairpin. You can also see them at Siberia and at the top of Lukey heights.
But after saying all that, Phillip Is is brilliant from any angle.

Siberia is the best !! We only decided a few weeks ago to go this year so we only have general admission but still cant wait to get there about ten hours and we will be at the airport. Hubby me and the kids woop woop GO CASEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bring some wellies too unless you like to trudge through mud!
The mud is the best part, slodging thru mud walking round the track, freezing cold one minute sunshine the next, my 11 year old daughter is beside herself at the prospect of seeing GP up close trackside.

we were in Lukey Heights last year. pretty good, not too far away to walk to the merch stands and better food stalls. Siberia is apparently the best views, but is opposite side of the track, so its a long walk to the pavilion and grandstand.
if you're along the main straight at you'll get to see the podium and you'll be able to jump the fence after the race to get onto the track to watch it.
conversely.....if you're on the otherside at least you get to walk some of the track
we walked from bass straight and followed it round to the gate...its pretty cool to go through siberia and lukey heights and actually see how steep and banked they are.
Vbroom, have justed checked the weather, gale force warnings, pissing down with rain etc etc hmmm may need to pack more than wellies hehehe
We walked to the podium on the track from Siberia last year of course by the time we got round to the podium the boys were inside doing interviews but Meh it was still awesome, and to see them crating the bikes for the next round how efficient they are, all round was just great fun.
should make for interesting racing though![]()
Thanks, guys. It seems I'm going for the Siberia (265$ for the grandstands..) .
Any recommended not expensive hotel near the track, with transportation to the track?
anywhere in cowes there are buses to the track.
book early though as they will fill up fast!
Zedik, i am assuming your are talking 2011 ? Book accomodation now, most places are 4 night minimum and there are some great deals where you get brekky and dinner included. If you are talking this weekend forget accomodation on the island (unless you have bucket loads of cash) we are staying an hour from the track this weekend so will be early start Sunday morning but no dif than dirt bike riding in winter really.
We stayed at Amaroo Caravan Park last year, hired a campervan in Melbourne, Amaroo was $220 a head for camp site for 4 days but that included breakfast and dinner all four days, similar cost this year and prob next but you do need to book soon.
Yes, I do mean this weekend. Still looking for a flight to Melbourne from Peth. it's not cheap at all - 585$.
I did see that Amaroo Park has private room for single occupancy, don't know prices yet.
What is the best way of getting from Melbourne to the Island? Bus? train?

This is the site for the Aussie round, you will probably have to commute down from Melbourne each day by bus. Try Cranbourne as well but make sure the bus stops there, you could go to the camp site at the island but could be uncomfortabl this weekend unless you are an eskimo

If all else fails, hire a car and camp trackside, it is brilliant!
He's a vid I took in 06 (I think) where Rossi comes from eighth to second in two laps

Wish I was there, although my mate said the weather is terrible ;( she is camped at highside
Off to bali instead!!
Lukeys is good, but cold....
I don't bother with a stand, general admission is great...
But shennanigans at the camp site are the best![]()
Looking at the weather forecast I reckon a bar in Cowes with large screen TV. Just jealous!

Well, after not seeing any improvement with the weather, I'm starting to have second thoughts about going this year.
I did not book a flight or Hotel yet because of this. Sounds like it's going to be a wet race..
On the other hand - I don't know when I should get the chance to be in Australia again (I'm here for business for 6 weeks).
What do you think? Is it bearable to stand at one of the grandstands or the general admission in this kind of weather?
